According to Bob McKenzie:

"Kellan Lain, a 6-foot-6 centre from Lake State, may be one of first college free agents to sign with NHL team, maybe within next 48 hours." link

"The Oakville, Ont., native is getting a lot of interest from Western Conference teams, including ANA, DET, PHX and VAN, amongst others." link

Here is his HockeyDB page: link

16 points in 32 games as a senior this year, with 111 PIMs, and 15 in 38 with 59 PIMs last year. Obviously a big body, seems like he likes to be physical, and has a bit of offensive upside. Interesting!

Could be a good fourth line option down the road. I would assume that he is just a replacement for Pinnizotto in Chicago

I don't know anything about him, but "6'6 centre" sounds tantalizing

Probably wants to step into an NHL role right away. He's big enough, but Is he fast enough?

Apparently he was a 56% faceoff guy this year. Seems like an interesting depth guy, at least.

Massive. I wonder about these college FA's though, it's hit or miss. He'll be a project.

Free prospects are always good. I wonder how many of those PIM were majors. Could even make the team by next season if he can skate and win face offs with his size and some physicality could be an excellent bottom sixer. Just never know with college players though

No word on which team but Bob Mac says he's roughly rated as the 3rd best college FA in an average year. Considering the organizational depth we have at RW if Jensen can make the team next season I'd rather add a potentially NHL ready center and let Gaunce go back to the Bulls

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Based on my conversations with NHL clubs, consensus top 3 college free agents are: DeKeyser, D, WMU; Sustr, D, UNO; Laganiere, RW, Yale.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: DeKeyser generally considered to be head and shoulders No. 1 guy in this college UFA class, which is considered average, at best, this yr.

Free University FA prospects are really the route to go for the Canucks to restock the cuboards. This guy sounds great just cause you can't teach being 6'6"

Ya, that's Sustr, he's listed in Bobby Mac's top 3 college FAs. Here's the DB link: Sustr

I was hoping for higher PIMs for a guy that big, seems more like a point getter.

Hmm hopefully we sign him, although I wonder what his offensive capabilites are, maybe just a big 3rd line center but who knows, either way would be a nice add to the cupboard.

He would be a great pick-up for sure! TSN says Gillis has been phoning around but obviously the market is quiet. Guys like Kellan Lain and the more notable Adrej Sustr would amazing alternatives if the market remains the same.

I never thought I'd say this, but 218 is kind of light. I mean for a guy 6'8'' I think a healthy 230 minimum. With a frame that big, let's hope he dirty bulks in the offseason.

A big, young, right handed D man for free?

GILLIS GET ON THIS
  • 0

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

I could see Lain being a replacement for a guy like Labate if we end up dangling him for a rental at the deadline.

CCHA guys are a big gamble.

Something like less than 10% who get signed ever step foot in the NHL.
