[Trade] Rene Bourque to Ducks for Bryan Allen

Recommended Posts

This is odd that the Ducks didn't just claim him off of waivers.

Allen had some value and they aren't close to the cap ceiling at all.

It must mean funds are tight in Anaheim, I'm guessing.

I think its a salary dump...Habs clear off Borques 3 1/2 mill next year and take on Allens 3 1/2 mill for this his final year...next year 7 mill comes off the Habs books...nice move.

I like the move for the Habs. Get a stay at home hard-nosed and tough defenceman in Allen, who is way past his prime but is still effective, for a guy who's career sunk faster than the Titanic.

I'm surprised the Habs were able to land a player back for Bourque. Was thinking the max they could get was a pick.

I agree with everybody. Why not just pick him up off waivers?

And Anaheim needs Allen (veteran presence, size) on their backend. They are going to be in trouble if their defenders start getting hurt.

Good for Montreal. Now they're stacked on the blue line: Subban, Emelin, Markov, Gonchar, Gilbert, Weaver, Beaulieu, Allen, Tinordi.

Unless more moves coming for either team, they are just stacking where they were already deep at.

Yeah, definitely a questionable trade from Anaheim's standpoint unless they have something else going down.

Allen is a good bottom pair guy, and his contract wasn't horrible. He's not really the kind of player a contending team without cap issues should be trading away for waiver fodder.

I feel like there's something else going on here, another trade, off-ice issue, something that would have made this a rational deal for Anaheim.

Wasn't Bourque just on waivers and cleared? Stupid move by Anaheim considering how young their back-end is. Beauchemin is now the only real veteran presence back there and we've seen the young guys cough up games with him out of the lineup. Fowler, Vatanen and Lindholm are all still learning, that team needs another guy like Beauchemin or Allen to complement their skill and youth.

As for Bourque, I guess Heatley hasn't worked out well for them so maybe here's his replacement. Bourque could definately start firing up with a scenery change so we'll see how this goes, but IMO they've got enough powerforwards in their lineup.

7 mil? Just allens 3.5.

still a great deal for montreal? even if they waive Allen they get rid of borques contract. If Allen is a serviceable player even better.

Canadiens acquire defenseman Bryan Allen from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for forward Rene Bourque:

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Thursday the acquisition of defenseman Bryan Allen from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for forward Rene Bourque.

Allen, 34, recorded one assist in six games thus far with the Ducks in 2014-15, averaging 18:12 of ice time per game. He recorded four shots on goal, 11 hits, 10 blocked shots and served four penalty minutes. He missed 14 games due to a lower-body injury.

Since he first joined the NHL back in 2000-01, Allen has recorded a total of 135 points (29 goals, 106 assists) in 716 regular season games. He scored five game winning goals. The 6'05'' and 223 lbs forward also served 837 penalty minutes and displays a +28 plus/minus differential.

A native of Kingston, Ontario, Allen was selected in the first round, fourth overall, by the Vancouver Canucks at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In his NHL career, he played for the Canucks (216 games), the Florida Panthers (284 games), the Carolina Hurricanes (101 games) and the Ducks (115 games).

Allen was selected to the OHL First All-Star Team in 1999. He won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 1999 World Junior Championship.

The 32-year old Rene Bourque registered two assists in 13 games with the Canadiens thus far this season, averaging 12:10 of ice time per game. The Lac La Biche, Alberta native played in a total of 141 career regular season games with the Canadiens since joining the team in a trade with the Calgary Flames on January 12, 2012.

Really? Allen has been playing like he would be pretty instrumental for the Ducks during a cup run this season.

Bourque is just about as lazy as they get...

Edit: I guess Anaheim has some solid depth on the back end when healthy perhaps, but Allen was darn good insurance for them.

It is a bit puzzling. Rumours have been buzzing around that Anaheim is or would be in on Tyler Myers. I suppose that is a big right handed shot with some speed. Somewhat different than steady Bryan Allen. But still?

How does that make sense for Anaheim though?

As much as u knocked Travella ^^^^, he prob had the wrong package, maybe it is to clear a roster spot on D for Myers? And add a forward as inevitably one or two good young ones (Rakell?) would be heading back to Buff if it happened??

Are the Habs in recent history known as a soft, small, fast, skill team like Detroit finally getting meaner?

They look tougher than the Bruins right now on paper.

On paper, the Bruins still have them beat. Lucic, McQuaid, are more intimidating names compared to Prust, Weise, and Allen. Besides, the Bruins as a team, play a pack mentality and are a team full of tough players who are willing to drop the mits and stand up for themselves. Montreal has only a select few who will do that.

Had to double take on this one - and then saw it's a Vintage post.

Love the move for the Habs.

Anaheim may not have had the roster spot when Bourque was waived?

In any event, this isn't the first time a guy cleared waivers to be dealt shortly thereafter but regardless of what the context was, I love the Allen addition to Montreal's blueline.
