apollo
Gillis looks much better clean shaven. The beginning of the end for MG was the Luongo contract. Smacked of desperation. What? That contract allowed us to have the cap space to bring in Lappy and Higgy during the deadline. Lead us to the most incredible months of my life. The handling of the contract was the mistake. It's incredible value for a superstar. The NHL changed the rules on Vancouver and diminished our players value. Just like how they changed the rules of hockey in the 2011 SCF
Salmonberries
Having to wave Frankie Corrado today is on Gillis. If he had shown an ounce of leadership he would have told AV to play what was a healthy Keith Ballard in the playoffs instead of making the crazy decision to use a 19 year old raw rookie and prevent the unnecessary burning of a year of waiver exemption over what was a childish feud between Vig and Ballard. There are times when a leader has to be the boss and that was just such a time. Today we stand to lose a young asset for no real reason (other than a coaches vanity) as a result. iinatcc
He will never work as a GM ever again. I hope a team hires him. Canucks could use a 3rd Round Pick

Ferraro hit it bang on today. They played him a 10th game in a losing effort to San Jose in the playoffs and burn't a year. Asset management...... Crabcakes
The Canucks are still paying him to do nothing. To me that's a really good job. He might have a non-compete type clause which stipulates as long as he is getting paid by the Canucks he can't work for another NHL team (or if he chooses to work for another NHL team the Canucks don't have to pay him). The old double dip. I think they all have that non-compete clause. It's a good point. As long as it's non-hockey, he'll still be drawing salary on his contract. Not sure what % he gets now. No surprise the professor picked up on my comment. By real job, I mean in hockey. Not a shot at Law Profs.

Yes, Benning earned my respect today because he put his stamp on the team by icing the best roster and forcing his staff to make the best with what he gave them. Last year, he decided to keep Horvat up despite Willie not buying it. Willie gave him minimal ice time in a limited role and Horvat worked his butt off to now a 2C. If we had it Willie's way Horvat would now be a Canuck this year in 4C after Sedin, Sutter, Vey. This year he forces Willie into a situation in which he Has to work with Virtanen, McCann and Hutton. He gets my respect because he is the boss with the vision and his employees have to follow.
VanNuck
Mike Gillis was listed in 2014 by Sportscaster as being the seventh-worst GM of all time. He inherited a team with a strong foundation, built them up well for sure, but then he let them degrade into a self-serving ego-centric culture. It was no wonder other fans disliked the Canucks - not just because they were successful. They went from being a club all about Vancouver to being all about themselves, and eventually their egos got the better of them, leading to the goaltender controversy, then they gradually went off the rails and collapsed. At least he did draft Bo Horvat, probably one thing he's done that's going right for us now.

Plain and simple. It had nothing to do with a feud. He simply didn't fit, or couldn't adapt, that bottom pair role.

apollo
He doesn't get another gm job because he'd have to forfeit his salary... Not because he can't get one I'm the meantime he's living in the most impeccable province in the world and teaching at one of the countries most prestigious law schools. All of you talking garbage have no clue and won't amount to 1/10tb of his success.
