He'll likely bulk up a little bit under a college program, but given the way the game is going if he's in the 180-185 range thats just fine for a speedy offensive defensemen. Might be well worth the wait.

If you go off some of the prepschool websites, it appears Jack was around 5’11” and 185 lbs at the start of the 2017-18 season. He may even be heavier than that since he was actually listed at 185 lbs as far back as the 2017 USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game (in May of 2017).

Pages like Elite Prospects tend to be outdated on player vitals (where he’s listed 5’10” and 170lbs). This kid trains really hard and is already built quite solid and from what I’ve heard he still intends to get a lot stronger. Not sure where he’ll top out but I don’t think he’ll be considered undersized when he’s done growing and adding muscle. He might very well end up around 6’ and closer to 200 lbs.

EDIT: Also just noticed that Harvard now has him at 5’11” and 190 lbs

Gained 20lbs in just one year?  Already taller and the same weight as Stecher but only just turned 19.

Yeah, it’s a pretty significant gain, if accurate.

I’m not sure about the weight I posted from the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. He actually played in the 2016 AAPG, so I had the dates wrong in the earlier post. Was listed at 185 and that was for September 2016.

https://www.allamericanprospectsgame.com/news_article/show/692121

Then, he was down to 172 lbs for the 2017 Combine. I think that he shed some baby fat that year and also likely dropped weight from playing the season. Probably also got himself into great shape for the testing, so likely was really cut and at a low point for his weight.

By weigh-ins before the 2017-18 season, I believe he was back up to 185, so bulked back up but also having replaced much of that baby fat with muscle from a good summer of training.

He then had the injury and missed a significant number of games last season. I think he probably used the time off to put in time in the weight room, so he could very well be 190 lbs now.

We’ll see if the weigh-ins are releases from development camp.

But if he’s 190 lbs now, that’s pretty amazing for a young guy and one who skates like he does.

I will say that in the few games I could actually see him play this spring, he looked solid and strong, so 5’11” and 190 lbs (and a fit 190) seems quite possible.

And he could make further gains this summer.

That was Jett Woo who got sat on his butt as well....Rathbone looks quite a bit bigger...what's going on here...are roids allowed again...?

Super stoked to see him on Thursday...hopefully paired with Mini Mighty....

Will I be able to hear you screaming "Just wait til October... JUST WAIT" from my seat? Sure hope so!

It's just prospects camp, but I'm so fired up to see Rathbone impressing, Gadjovich and Lind being a little more in the spotlight, etc, etc... so much reason for optimism and enthusiasm around the future of the team, even as media is dumping on our most recent pro signings.

Rathbone was a steal.  He’s going to be a star.  He and Hughes are going to be an incredible 1 - 2 punch.

Lol re: roids. But yeah, you could see from the first day of camp that Jack’s gotten bigger. Probably an inch taller and at least 15 lbs heavier than he was at last year’s combine. He’s looking really strong. From what I heard, he used the two months he missed with the injury (knee IIRC) to work on his upper body strength. His legs and core were already really strong, but he’s clearly added muscle to his chest, shoulders, and arms. Still skates like the wind but now he can also control and move guys much easier. He’s also matured a year and that makes a huge difference on it’s own. But Rathbone (like many of our guys) has a bit of a gym rat rep, so he’s probably packed on serious muscle since the last time he was in Vancouver. He may very well end up 6’ and 200 lbs (already listed 5’11” and 190 lbs by Harvard and he looks that size right now).

This kid is pretty exciting to me.

I only know what I read while lurking on these forums.

If he really is 5'11 and 190 that is fantastic considering his speed and skillset.

I love prospect camp.

Here’s where he’s listed 5’11” and 190 lbs. Until we see measurements from camp, I’d expect 2018-19 roster pages will have the most recent measurements.

And colleges don’t “round up” measurements nearly as much as they used to, so probably pretty accurate.
