JeremyCuddles
Scary thing is we got lucky this last expansion draft with only Gaunce and Sbisa being the notable people worth taking off our team. 2021? We might actually lose a piece worth crying over. Interesting to see if this happens.

As long as Quebec gets a team again, then the NHL may as well bilk some suckers in Seattle out of over a half billion dollars.
KelownaCanucksFan
While this awesome for the Pacific Northwest, by the time that expansion draft rolls around we are going to lose a very good player. Seattle fans are great, look at the way the supported the Seahawks through so many bad years, they will become hockey fanatics.

SabreFan1
Everybody keeps worrying about losing a good player in the expansion draft. Don't forget, if the Canucks don't want to lose a quality player, they can also offer to "pay" off the expansion team with a draft pick or two to take a plug from them or a bad contract instead.

Why wouldn't we be happy about a close expansion team that makes road trips easier, an actual geographical rival, less travel for our team etc.

Not really worried about 'watering down'. There are so many nhl capable players out there now, it's really a zero issue. As for the math, while that's technically true on paper, the game is actually played on ice and a team isn't not going to win a cup because there's another team in the league. You have to be a damn good team, stay relatively healthy and get some luck asking the way to win a cup. Another team in the league doesn't change that. The more teams there are the less chance there is of making it whether it's on paper or on the ice. Of course there are plenty of other factors involved but that doesn't change the fact that if you're 1 of 10 teams as opposed to 1 of 50 teams that your odds of winning the cup decrease dramatically with the latter scenario. It would be unfair for the Pacific to have two expansion teams. Nope, Vegas is staying in the Pacific... Arizona is in a different time zone (partially, since they do not observe DST). Basically, we are only 4 hours away from the Pacific Ocean, LA, and Anaheim; 8 hours to San Jose. Compare to Arizona Coyotes, 5 hours to Las Vegas, LA, and Anaheim, 10 hours to San Jose... guntrix
Thank god, the league needs a couple more expansion teams. In all my years of watching the NHL, I don’t think I’ve seen such a high concentration of talent/blue chippers on a team-by-team basis. I think it’d be good to water it down a bit.

We still have to play the other 30 teams as well.

-Vintage Canuck-
The Oak View Group has received their expansion paperwork from the NHL for the Seattle market, moving the onus on them to formally apply for expansion.
