I just think there was a sudden drop off in goals and wonder if he had one of those injuries that lingers. Or perhaps he was utilized in a different role. If you look at the prior 3 seasons, this last one is more of an anomaly than a normality. Played an avg 14 minutes per game low offensive zone starts and still managed 47 points. 3

Bingo and after Kucherov, Stamkos and Point the rest of the team were pretty much equal. JT Miller was the best value with his contract, cap hit, age and versatility. His role changed because he is so versatile. He was given a more defensive role and his O zone starts were reduced. Tampa will miss him as a player. Have to give value to get value. I believe he will thrive with more minutes and better line mates. Edited June 23, 2019 by Borvat 3 2

Popular Post Harvey Specter
Following the shock of the acquisition, it's starting to look like a solid move for us. Say we miss next year's playoffs and we land into the lottery draft again, we should be good to go and be in the playoff picture by the time the 2021 draft year rolls around. Looking at our draft picks, Podkolzin should be ready to make the jump to the AHL and/or NHL following the conclusion of his current contract. (Side note: his honouring of his signed contract is a subtly good move to demonstrate his character and I liked the hidden gem/draft rank falling of him to us at 10) In addition, our core-6 will be 2+ years older, and if we can do a Storm Surge à la Hurricanes into the playoffs by then, we will be well into the playoffs. Basing on this year's draft order, let's assume we do a NYI kinda run, middle of the postseason bounce - we would draft be drafting around 21st to 23rd which would be decent value in 2021 as we wiull have benefited from Miller's contributions for 2 seasons already. 2 3
Talon71
Considering most of the Sedin time here was spent without a first line winger.... (that is a waste) I'm glad Petey is not going to have the same situation. Sucks to lose a 1 st rounder, but overall I think it's for the best.

MattJVD
I'm excited about having Miller, he's going to really help our top 6. Not thrilled about giving up a first, but there is nothing to be done about that now except making sure that 1st is as deep in the 1st round as possible. If the team can get into the playoffs, and maybe even win a round, sending a mid 20s pick for Miller is much more palatable. 1
Mathew Barzal
He should play with Horvat, give our mans a proper winger plz.

(Pearson, Leivo, Virtanen) Miller scored 13 goals last year. Virtanen had 15. Miller is a 50-60 point player. 9 hours ago, Maniwaki Canuck said: Like the player and his contract but not this deal for us at our current stage in the rebuild. He will almost certainly make us better next year and for the rest of his contract. But hitting on a low 20s first rounder (assuming that's the price) in 1 or 2 years' time would do more to bring us a cup. I guess the trade-off is getting us to a better place in the short and medium term so morale doesn't become a problem. We'll see how much better a place that runs out to be. Anyway, from now on the challenge for those of us who question the deal is to separate that issue from the player himself. There's a lot to like about him. Our "current stage" is to become competitive and make the playoffs, not continue to wallow in the lottery. We have lots of good drafted pieces in place and more on the way, it's time to supplement them with key pieces and start moving up the standings and competing with the big boys.

Didnt have to scroll down the first page far to see this and want to add to it. JT Miller career stars are almost identical to Horvats, and they play a similar game. He’s responsible defensively too, sees time on the PK (over 2:00 minutes a game) and the PP (around the same), really is a Swiss Army knife. If he gets the top L spot which I think he most definitely will given he’s the best option by far, and Pearson shows promise with Horvat, I could see him pushing his game to the next level around O’Reilly territory. Plus that line becoming a plus monster. He’d be worth a kings bounty at that point and we could flip him as rental for such as a rental later on. Or just re-sign him if we can keep him (which I have serious doubts we will be able too given the cap situation will be much different then). In other words we have a guy who will likely become a fan favourite fast, for a reasonable cost, that later on we will re-coup if we want, or just carry on like business as usual sign him for another 3-5 years. Either way it’s a win win. Could be a very big win indeed if you know what I mean. Nothing not to like about this, no way a non-cap strapped team would trade him, and if they did you could add JV to the ask minimum. 1

I guess they are expecting a huge pay day for Point too, and they have Cerilli coming up who scored 19 goals without much 5 x 5 time and who was their best penalty killer playing on the third line. Like TO they were bound to lose someone... they want picks which makes sense for them (players add cap). Oh yeah and Gourde too... Solid gain for us a bit of an underpayment, for them they got two picks one a possible (but unlikely) lottery one too. And yes they have one of the smallest forward groups in the league... Popular Post Attila Umbrus
The one thing I don't really see mentioned here (went through all the pages) but the main thing I like with Miller is that he is a 50 % face off guy. It's been mentioned he can play center, but I did some digging and found out not only he can play center but he can also win draws. Last year he took as many face offs as Pettersson did and was 49 %, Petey was 40 %, so maybe if Miller does end up on Peteys line we have a guy that can win harder faceoffs and gain possession right away, which would be of major benefit to Petey and Boeser. They need a good glue guy on their line that get possession and get them the puck. I think this is a great pick up! 1 1

While we don't need a whole line up of big guys, it's certainly going to help to bring him in. Look, the word's out on Petey and we need a couple of guys with size who can be a bit of a deterrent. Plus he takes face offs. And has good jump and seems like a bit of an unselfish player. Just saw the energy video, above (after posting)....yep, I like this a lot. 3
