What is your 2019-2020 projected lineup for the Canucks?

I am curious to see what everyone thinks the lineup will look like with all the recent changes to the roster, I think the team is looking a lot better than they were last season and I am also curious to see what line combinations Travis Green will come up with as well. Here's what I think the lineup should be: (Note that I do not expect this lineup, this is just a quick mock up)

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser

Baertschi - Horvat - Leivo

Roussel - Beagle - Virtanen

Motte - Sutter - Pearson

Gaudette? (to AHL?)

Goldobin?

Eriksson?

Edler - Myers

Hughes - Benn

Stecher - Tanev

Fantenberg?

Markstrom
Demko

Edler and Myers sounds like a pairing that could cause trouble to the opposing team. I like the looks of a Hughes and Benn pairing, Hughes has the dangles and Benn has a big shot, one of them would have to play their offside side, but that may not be a problem for one of them. Stecher and Tanev look nice as I find they both are more defensive than offensive and could be used at bigger defensive moments.

I put a question mark after some players because I don't know if they are really fitting in on those positions or even fitting in on the team. I don't often try to make my own line combinations, so there are probably some players I'm forgetting to include.

Once Roussel is fully healthy I see Gaudette moving back to Utica unless there is a trade involving Sutter.  Eriksson hopefully is moved by September, Schaller will be sent to Utica and Goldobin will be moved as well I believe.  I don't see how Goldobin would fit on this roster unless he is in the top 6.  Right now if healthy Baertschi should be in that spot.

On defense I expect Juolevi, Teves, Rafferty, Brisebois and Sautner to all start in Utica which gives us great depth in case of injury.

Honestly I think we're grittier, bigger and tougher to play against than we've ever been but I just hope we have enough skill to score...

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser

Baertschi - Horvat - Pearson

Roussel - Sutter - Leivo

Goldobin - Gaudette - Virtanen

Beagle/Motte

Eriksson (assuming traded)

Edler - Stecher

Hughes - Myers

Benn - Tanev

Fantenberg

Juolevi

Biega

Brisebois

Rafferty

Markstrom

Demko

Like the depth on the blueline, like the grit and hard working players but I do worry about the lack of forward scoring depth if the top 2 lines dry up and skill. Hopefully the kids in the bottom 6 can breakout and bring some top end skill because that top-6 is pretty evenly balanced.

On the whole an extremely well balanced team, JB should be commended.

I take it you started watching the Canucks post 2010 because that is beyond laughable.

JB has tipped off his intentions for the top 6:

  • Miller playing with Petey
  • Pearson's chemistry with Horvat
  • Targeting another top 6 (RW Nyquist) - limited by the recapture penalty

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser

Pearson - Horvat - [trade/UFA] or Virtanen / Goldobin

There's no guarantee we get that upgrade in our top 6.  If by UFA, Dzingel looks to be a good fit, and similar skill set to Nyquist (fast, skilled). If not, I see Virtanen there - he'll be working hard for his next contract, and I expect him to take a step forward.

Baertschi - Sutter - Virtanen / Goldobin

Roussel [by Dec] - Beagle - Gaudette

Leivo, Motte, MacEwan

I appreciate what Sutter brings, but I find it difficult to craft a line that suits him.  Also, can't tell if that 3rd line is respectable scoring depth or a mismatch of skilled wingers that can't crack our top 6?   Half expecting Baertschi or Goldobin to get traded, but then remembering their value is probably very low.  Where's Eriksson?  Who cares?

Edler - Tanev

Hughes - Myers

Benn - Stetcher

Fantenberg - Biega

Liking the look of our upgraded defense - not sure about the ride side pairings, but here's my reasoning:  Edler and Tanev have proven chemistry. Myers is a heavy minutes guy, who can take pressure off them.  He won't be the stay-at-home D compliment to Quinn (who's actually quite strong at getting back into his zone when needed), but a TWD that balances Quinn's lack of size with reach, physicality (when needed) and even more offense.  I'm intrigued by this pair.  Benn brings size, physicality and simple play that should allow Stetcher to grow his offense a little.  Also, FWIW, my cousin (hard core Flames fan , yet fairly knowledgeable hockey guy) thinks Fantenberg is better than Stetcher.

Markstrom

Demko

Loving our goaltending right now.

All in all, a good day 1 to FA.  I love that the biggest question mark is that 2RD spot / our 3rd line.  It would really just take one pleasant surprise from Baertschi, Goldy, Virtanen, Leivo, etc. to sort that out.
