  1. I would say yes, though I don't know Edmonton would be so eager to do it. Ferland Petey Boeser Miller Horvat Puljujarvi Pearson Gaudette Sutter Rousell Beagle Leivo That looks to be a pretty potent forward group to me.
  2. I agree. It drives me nuts to see players intentionally turn their backs. I think it was an ok check. Got him from the side and the speed wasn't a pace I would call agregious. I don't see any intent to injure. I agree with TG. It was a hockey play with an unfortunate consequence.
  3. I agree. The offseason additions have ended the necessity to rush our youth's development and push them to the NHL I believe this strategy really damaged Virtanen's growth and seeing it happen again would be tragic I am loving what I'm seeing from Gaudette but he needs to play, not sit. He needs to slow things down in order to fully embrace his skills and maximize his abilities. Gaudette is best served by continuing his development in Utica. Sutter's contract is up in two seasons. I'm hoping hecan stay healthy and perform well enough to possibly be trade bait next offseason; maybe at the draft which opens up the third line spot for Gaud next year.
  4. Unfortunately, I am forced to agree with you. He's one of those players that has all the skill in the world to succeed yet doesn;t have the passion or drive to match. Right now, I can't see any scenario where Goldy sticks anf his opportunities are running low.
  5. The thing I love about this kid is how engaged he is in every zone and how impactful he is is everytime he's on the ice. He looks like an absolute workhorse. The points aren't there yet but they're going to start coming.
  6. Now that Boeser's locked up, it's time to get back to work. My one hope for this season is to see Brock become a more complete player. We all know he's going to get his points but he really needs to learn to play all three zones. His next contract starts with a qulifying offer of 7.5. At this number, I want to see a more rounded, top-six player that the coach can depend on anywhere on the ice. I don't expect an overnight change but want to see definite strides in that direction. If we end up with a Brock Boeser that is a lock to get 60-70 points a season and plays effectively over the full 200 feet of the ice, he's worth every penny of 8-9 million a season and I'd be happy to drive him to the bank myself.
  7. Yea, it sucks when business and personal issues collide like this. Unfortunately, JB still has to deal with the business of doing what's best for the team.
  8. Thanx. Definitely hookin myself up there.
  9. Where did you get that? I've been frustrated not being able to watch our prospects.
  10. Imo, JB says no. He has total control of this situation and a chance to lock up a star at a great team number. He has to take advantage.
  11. At 8 mil., I'm looking at who the offersheet came from and where I'm projecting them to finish. Any projected top ten pick, I'm taking the compensation all the way.
  12. I agree, although I see Ferland with Petey and Boes, as long as he gels with them, where I see no problems.
  13. I, like everyone else here, want to see Boes in camp but JB has to think long term as well. Brock's camp chose a path that carried a consequence. Burn a year of elc but lose full rfa rights at the other end. Burning that year without playing enough games in the season cost him arbitration rights and the ability to take other offers. This is a loophole JB should take full advantage of. I think this is a player JB should play hardball with and be fully willing to let him sit out the season if necessary. Boeser is a player whose ice time has been sheltered and has grossly skewed the truth. I mentioned this in another thread and I'll bring it up again. 77% of his shifts started in the offensive zone. I didn't find any numbers offering league averages on this but 77% has to be among the leagues highest in that category. This really tells a truth about his defensive abilities and how little TG trusts him outside the offensive zone. In fact, I'd be asking; Why did he only get 56 pnts? The fact that the cap didn't go up doesn't help Boes' case either. Horvat makes 5,5 per season and is more important to this team than Boes will ever be. That may sound cold but, imo, it's fact. Given all these factors, if I'm GM, I'm after max term at 5.5, take it or leave it, there are ufa's out there who would love another season in the NHL. As I recall Thomas Vanek had some success during his short time here. I have no difficulty seeing him on Petey's wing. Any way this situation is looked at, it hurts Brock imensely if he decides to sit. It's a year of income he'll never get back and he misses a year of playing time which could affect his play in the future. This is not a situation anyone wants. This is a chance for JB to get a good player at a really good price and to prove himself as a tough negotiator and one not to be taken lightly.. My hope is he sticks to his guns and waits him out.
  14. I don't think this is going to a thing. Myers looks to be in incredible shape. He's had two straight seasons in which injuries did not derail his year (knock on wood). Big Tex looks to be poised to play well into his thirties. He's coming to a team that's young and extremely talented and will give him ample opportunity to show off his offensive skills. While his defensive play is weaker than his offensive skills, he's not as bad as many make him out to be. Many have him slotted with Edler as a top pairing but I'd like to see Stetcher with Edler and Benn with Myers, and Hughes and Tanev as the third pair, at least to start the season. Both Edler and Myers are prone to the odd defensive gaffe here and there. Stetcher is speedy and has emerged as an effective defensive player which, hopefully, cushions Edler's defensive mistakes. Same applys to the Benn, Myers duo. Benn is the defensive specialist, allowing Myers to think more offensively. While Hughes showed amazing puckhandling skills at the end of last season, it was just too short of a preview to be able to tell what Hughes truly is at the NHL level. As Petey learned last year, 82 games is a lot of games to play. Playing on the third line for, perhaps, half of his rookie year allows him to acclimate himself to the NHL rigors at a slower pace. Pairing Tanev with him means less minutes on Tanev which, hopefully, keeps him healthy for more of the season. The pwerplay is where Hughes is going to get the bulk of his points. For my first pairing I keep the Edler, Stetcher pairing together but my second pairing is Hughes and Myers. While I don't see these pairings standing for the season, I can see them on the opening night roster.
  15. Petey makes everyone around him better. His ability to adapt to a player rather than that player adapting to him will make Ferland the best he's ever been. When he witnesses first hand what EP40 can do his appreciation for him will sky rocket. It's been a while since I've been this excited for a season to start. I see great things coming my friends.
  16. This, actually occurred to me a while ago. The fact that he hasn't recieved one, weakens his position by the day. With Nylander hungry to get back to his former output and Kapanen salivating for a top six spot, as GM of the Leafs, I'm not inclined to throw the keys to the bank vault at him either. This has become a very interesting offseason, in which we could, possibly, see some big names sitting the season out. which could a;so fuel fire to the, ongoing, CBA negotiations.
  17. At most, I see him being a 5.5 mil. player. He's a one demensional scorer with average speed and leaves a lot to be desired defensively. His on ice deployment reveals he's sheltered with more than 77% of his shifts last season starting in the offensive zone which is bigtime evidence of TG's lack of trust in him. If not for his 56 pnts last season, I don't even know that he's on the team. In addition to this, the fact that people keep talking about market value still boggles my mind as he's not on the market. He has no arbitration rights and can't recieve offers. Only the fact that JB wants to make the playoffs this season gives him any leverage at all but, as I see it, there are still some good fill ins on the ufa board that would love another year in the NHL (Thomas Vanek comes to mind). He provided similar numbers as Boeser during his time here. Could he do it again. Sign Vanek, send Boeser's agent a 5.5 x 8, take it or leave it offer. Sure, his agent will cry foul, saying how JB is playing dirty but, player agents take advantage of loop holes all the time, so I see it as, alls fair in love and war.
  18. Guy sounds like trash. Probably got the bug bites from his wife.
  19. hey, he met the requirements of your post. He most definitely no longer plays for the Canucks. lol
  20. Garth Butcher Hard hitting mean guy to play against.
  21. To this point in their careers, I'd actually place more value on Goldy than Puljujarvi. While Puljujarvi seems to have regressed in his development, Goldy has progressed and has made improvements to his game and seems to be moving in a positive direction. Though far from a pollished, well rounded forward, Goldy seems to be, at least, moving in the right direction. It may sound strange to expect a little more than a former fourth overall pick for Goldy but, imo, we are taking the higher risk in taking Puljujarvi. Poolparty got to play with a couple of the top players in the world and couldn't make it happen. The question is; What can he do here if he couldn't do it there? On the other hand, Goldy gets to go and, possibly, play with the best player in the world. Edmonton leans to a more offensive philosophy than a two way one. This plays to Goldy's strengths and should, in theory, boost his production. With these points made, I don't think it unfair to expect a mid to low round pick in addition to Puljujarvi.
  22. For a third round pick, I'm pretty excited to see what this kid can do. Most analysts have him pegged as a bottom six winger but, they also say he has the skillset to become top six if he can put it all together. Getting a speedy, high pressure, gritty third liner out of Willy would be great but envisioning him on Bo's RW is not tough to envision given his playing style. Although video of his all around game are dificult to come by; what I have seen exibits his willingness to take hits to complete plays. This mentality is becoming rarer and rarer. Most stop up or try to go around rather than bulldogging through. I really like his approach to the game and look forward to seeing him soon in Vancouver.
  23. The biggest factors that bring down his price are no arbitration rights and no ability to negotiate with other teams. His agent has no negotiating power.
  24. I believe excitement, whether over hyped or not, is a great thing. Although I'm excited for every season to start, this season comes with a bit of expectation due to the big additions. JB has addressed every major flaw our team had and has brought balance to our team. We now have a great balance of offence, defence, physicality and depth. We also have a great mix of youth, veteran leadership, and those just entering their prime. TG has so many different looks he can put together, with all potentially having great success. Ferland, Petey, Boeser Miller, Petey, Boeser Pearson, Horvat, Ferland Baer, Petey, Boeser Baer, Horvat, Boeser Ferland, Petey, Miller Ferland, Horvat, Miller These are just a few. The list of combinations is impressive and all look good. We have a lot of players who are prone to injury. JB has provided enough depth, imo, to compensate for this. While the possibility still exists that they miss the postseason again, I don't believe they will. This team now has the pieces to remain competitive through the full 82 games. I believe we make the playoffs.
