By us, or by the league?
I think it's a good thing that he's a pillar that just efficiently gets the job done as the best in his position on our team, and when he's on he's dominant in connecting the dots between playing defense and creating scoring chances for the forwards. He can score but EP40 and Miller have really helped carry the mail in that regard, and his subordinates on the blueline rightfully deserve attention, even if it's not positive (e.g. trade Myers, what do we do about OEL, etc.).
Around the league, he belongs in the same tier as Makar. Heiskanen, Dahlin, Fox, etc. but I'm fine if other markets don't view him as highly; he is smaller and not as flashy (Makar and Fox can go on rushes, Heiskanen and Dahlin were viewed as wunderkinds in their draft years whereas Hughes is more of a puck-mover, and his lack of size gives the impression that he's not that good defensively, but we know from scouting reports in his draft year that his way of defense is swooping in, stealing the puck and transitioning it. I'm starting to appreciate that element of his game too, even if it's relatively unheralded).

I’m enjoying the offence. Hating the defence all around. Looking forward to 2 months time. Spring and see who’s on the team after the deadline. Dog days of the season, just like winter.

It’s been a really tough year for ol’ Devron. Im looking forward to a better one. 2022 in the rear view. Go Canucks Go. Win or Bedard or something really good for the future. Really, it’s a win win season. Let’s go!

A little positivity to go into the week. Oilers and Flames are kind of sucky to start the season too. Not super sucky like us but sucky. The division is wide open. We can get back into this thing with a good road trip or continue the suck. Should be a fun week

I find it funny that the Leafs media is asking Matthews questions about his contract. He’s under contract for 2 more years! Literally is not allowed to sign a deal right now. Ridiculous this stuff people talk about that’s so far away. Reminds me of the Miller trade deadline talks 6 months before the deadline. Enjoy the moment people

@Chickenspearexactly - proves he is not ready to be a highly paid hockey player. You don't see other $7 million a year plus players "struggling" because of a coach.
Just saying.
The reality was Pettersson was a contract hold out and was not ready to play when the season started - wouldn't have mattered who was coaching - took him 20 plus games to get in game shape.

@Devron 30 goal scorers?
Flames are about to have 3 x 40 goal scorers - something the Canucks have never done.
We lost last night cause our "30 goal" scorers couldn't beat a backup goalie.
(Pettersson got 1 but he was -2 on the night)

Just glad we didn’t ship Schenn for a 6Th rounder. Glad management sees the value in having a player like Schenn on the roster even if it’s only one more year.

I would be pi**ed, but not surprised. JR said when he was hired that this team is not in the part of the cycle where they are a playoff team/contender (yet), and said there is a lot of work to do, they need to clear cap, they need to get younger and faster, etc. The chances of making the playoffs is very slim - they can't lose more than 6 games the rest of the way. Selling some players now will give them a bigger returns. That friggin false hope gets them every time.
