  1. Tampa's gonna want youth or picks to replenish their futures, and I doubt we can offer what other teams can to get it done for him. Of course I'd love to see Ross join us but I just don't see it.
  2. You'd rather let them walk for nothing than at least get some draft capital in return? If we're going to build around the remaining guys it's probably better if we consolidate and focus around them by moving these 3 and building for the future. "You don't agree? That's why someone like you shouldn't have a say in managerial matters. Wow!"
  3. Any Jets fans here care to speculate what roster needs they'd want to resolve and who would be available? I'd love it if we could go for Lowry or Heinola (if there's confidence that he's more than Rathbone/ Wolanin at this point).
  4. *IF we're compliant with them in the lineup then sure let's keep them. If not I'd be open to trade them for pennies on the dollar with retention, as long as we don't give up further assets for future considerations.
  5. Anthony Beauvillier Faceoffs Stats NHL Stats | FOX Sports Besides his first season where he took 166 draws, he's never taken more than 57 in a year, and he was a dismal 3-10 in this past year. I'd be open to try Raty or even Karlsson before Beauvillier (his 69.2% was from going 9-4 over 68 games, so not the biggest sample size).
  6. Agreed with all the bolds, esp. hope the 2nd one comes true (he did do well in a shutdown role in a top-4 role for that one year).
  7. Statistically speaking though, Bear came in and helped OEL stay afloat, and he only cost a 5th while playing at a borderline top-4 level (Ethan Bear demonstrably made his Canucks teammates better throughout 2022/23 (canucksarmy.com). If the two of them can cost around $10 million combined (Bear taking around $2.7 million AAV) while playing safe enough to be a fringe top-4 duo (either stacking Hughes - Hronek, or playing Hughes - Burroughs/ Juulsen/ Schenn/ whoever on one and (LHD) - Hronek on another pair) for 3 adequate, defensively sound duos that would be a win in my books, esp. if we can shed Myers' salary. Around $22 million for a top-4 isn't bad at all for a defensive foundation. Re: the OP, adding Hronek who can probably carry his own pairing and who's young enough to fit into the current core's timeline, while only costing a late-mid 1st round pick isn't all that bad, esp. considering he's an all situations RHD. Hughes - Hronek ($12.25 million) OEL - Bear (~$10 million)
  8. Not tough (or big) enough physically for all of Joker, MPJ and Gordon, plus their tremendous versatility (even Murray and KCP are only a couple inches smaller than Bam or Jimmy, so there's no real mismatch for Miami, while 4 of the 5 Nuggets starters can space the floor, and Gordon can outmuscle anyone not named Bam/ Zeller/ maybe Jimmy?). On top of that Joker's passing is the glue that holds this team together/ the fuel that drives this engine. He'll probably keep picking apart their zone.
  9. Curious if the NBA views repeated displays of firearms on IG more strictly than actual home harm (re: Miles Bridges, who got 30 games). I guess if there's legal ramifications or they want to discourage this lack of remorse then they could go more heavy handed with the punishment.
  10. What's wrong with running a tandem that will cost less than $6 million total? No need to sell Demko early given how strong he finished last season, we can instead have two strong goaltenders carry the defense.
  11. Buffalo doesn't need Boeser, they've already got lots of wing talent; they need a top-4 RD.
  12. I'd do it if the Caps do, really don't know what the Caps need. Adding arrows to the quiver would help with our depth chart (him, Raty, Aman can all fight for the 3rd C role).
  13. Prefer to go for Dvorak, lower cost and wouldn't be such an albatross-looking contract if we had to put him on the 3rd line at his price point.
  14. Lol sounds like you're talking about two different players here (Marcus Johansson with the Wild is 32, Ryan Johansen is 30 with the Preds).
  15. Not sure if I'm the only one who felt he was out of place there, but Boeser on PP1 as the net front screener/ tipper last season seems like a bit of a waste IMO. Not that he doesn't have the hands for those kinds of plays, but his game's always seemed like one that flourished best when he could get his shot off on the rush, or if it was "on his stick, off his stick" in short order (e.g. if he played bumper, or on the left flank on his forehand). I really think that if he got more of a "goal scorer" deployment he could get that lethal shot of his back with more regularity and we could see some new heights in his scoring IMO.
  16. We can easily dump Beauvillier or Garland or Boeser, Oliver Bjorkstrand style (he got a 3rd and 4th round pick in return) so yeah the issue isn't that they're stuck with us; it's that we'd be selling for pennies on the dollar. If anything I'd hope for Beau to go for say a 2nd, and then Myers for a 4th or something. Carolina's realizing they need scoring and Bedard will need a running mate or two, so for the wingers there's definitely a market, and hopefully Myers' WC play raises his value such that with some retention we'd find a taker. Sell Beau for market value, give Brock and Garland another year to prove their worth, re-sign Bear after Myers is gone and we'd have room. Then in the meantime hopefully Klimovich, McDonough, Hoglander and Podkolzin can all start taking next steps to prove they can stick as regulars, and we'll have a lot more breathing room when we can promote their ELCs in and the "bloated" contracts have been moved.
  17. I agree with this, if Boeser's not traded we should market him by putting him with EP40, though I'd also be down to put Garland in place of Podkolzin if we want a speed line (though the two Russians with Miler would make for a very responsible unit... or Garland - Miller - Podz would also be a good trio seeing how Conor and Vasili had chemistry before too).
  18. Why don't we let Raty get a shot first, and see what we have in Miller, before we trade Miller for another C who's already going to get paid?
  19. Good on them. Stabilize their leadership core when they've already got their core locked up, plus they've got $17 million to spend still on just an RHD to pair with Power.
  20. Any recommendations for a good restaurant Jollof Rice in Vancouver?  Heard good things and would like to try it.

VanSuya in East Vancouver is really good. It's probably the best Jollof Rice I've had in Vancouver.

But will it put you in the mood for this?

@Neil HD I SURE HOPE SOOOO!!

  21. Not sure who I'm rooting for more with this likely NBA final between the Nuggets and the Heat. On the one hand, Jimmy Buckets has been red-hot carrying his underdog team on an individual basis, while on the other the two-time MVP in Joker has optimized his team offensively through scoring and high-IQ play-making while not being a liability defensively due to the structure of the team around him. Just hoping for an entertaining 7-game series where the best team comes out on top.
  22. If the Canucks aren't able to open up cap space by the RFA signing deadline, does Kravtsov by default become un-qualified and thus an UFA?  Or can we qualify him without cap space?

    1. Alflives

      Alflives

Regardless, I doubt we would qualify him anyway.

    2. mll

      mll

The latter.  The QO is due early July - it's just to retain a players rights and doesn't guarantee that he signs a contract or makes the roster.  He's going abroad so he'll probably just pass on signing a deal.  Vancouver retained Tryamkin's rights by qualifying him when he decided to leave - had no incidence on their cap situation.

  23. That would be the best outcome for us. No longer handcuffed and needing to dump a "bloated" contract (Boeser/ Garland), and if it goes up enough we can move Myers and Beauvillier as pending UFAs with retention to maximize the return. Now I just hope management doesn't screw it up like they did last time ($12 million coming off the books? Let's add OEL and Garland to eat up all that space in 1 fell swoop!).
