[Rumour] Morrow to Canucks

Recommended Posts

Getting Morrow is a no brainer. Not sure what Gillis is thinking here??? There is no one in our organization who can come in and give us what Morrow can bring this year. Schroeder is not what we need at all in the middle, at 5'8 forget about it... Bo & Gaunce will be there soon but as teenagers it's atleast 1 year to soon. Our biggest hoe is our 3rd line centre which is not an easy hole to fill & it's been a whole since Manny. If we are looking to plug in some youth it could be on a wing but the only guy I see helping us this year is Hunter. He is our most talented scorer which we could use some more off as well.

Daniel - Henrik - Kassian

Burrows - Kesler - rookie (Jensen/Shinkaruk)

Booth - Schroeder - Morrow

Higgins - Richardson - Hansen

Tostito's

Schroeder, by all accounts, isn't effective on the wing and will not supplant Kesler as 2nd line center. This leaves the third line as the only line available, since the other center spots are taken by Henrik, Kesler, and Richardson. That being said, Schroeder is not suited for a third lone shutdown role. That is the main dilemma regarding Schroeder, that is, he fits nowhere.

Signing Brendan Morrow will solve this dilemma and give Schroeder the third line center spot. Much like how Hodgson was used in a third line scoring role, Schroeder should be used the same way. Pairing him with big wingers who get to the front of the net will provide Schroeder time and space to use his offensive skills, which will provide dividends as there will be less pressure for the Sedins and Kesler to score.

"The offense is good, but what about our shutdown line?" you ask? Higgins, Richardson, and Hansen will form our traditional two-way/shutdown line, but due to depth will be called the fourth line. They will still play 10-15 minutes per night, so our so called traditional third line will still be there. The only thing different in this idea is scrapping the First/Second/Third/Fourth line traditional hockey roles and forming lines with offense, defense, and two-way capabilities. Essentially, we're moving away from roles and moving towards maximizing depth and capabilities with a roster including Morrow, Schroeder, and another impact rookie.

people putting morrow on the 3rd line are silly. he's a huge downgrade from both higgins and hansen and thus would only fit on the 4th line, for under a million, and at that point i'd rather someone younger, more durable and with better wheels.

Would LOVE Morrow to Vancouver. Even sign him for a two year deal if it means getting him a bit cheaper.

Can play on any line, has leadership qualities and history, can kill penalties, can hit, can score a few goals, will block shots. He can do EVERYTHING the Canucks need players to do with more consistency.
