[Rumour] Morrow to Canucks

Recommended Posts

I think I prefer Simon Gagne? Yes an injury risk, does not supply as much grit or size...

But Morrow is not exactly a solid bet to play 82 games. Gagne is more dynamic defensively.

Burrows / Kesler / Gagne gives Kesler two speed demons who can fore check, are gifted passers and can chip in goals as well. He's also more dynamic offensively. Or he could play with the Twins.

It makes us closer to the speed and skill Chicago model than Boston, where Morrows was not going to win series for us based on size?

Oh well; we'll see. Happy to get either really... And neither are more likely.

Schroeder getting hurt actually makes our cap worse... if he wasn't hurt, he wouldn't be taking up ANY cap space because he would be in the AHL and not making enough to count against the NHL cap. If he is hurt long enough to qualify for cap relief, then we only get LTIR relief which only counts if we are right up against the cap, which we aren't.

Neither situation stops us from signing Morrow though... we have the cap space for what he is going to earn this year. Here is a sample roster (note how Alberts is also demoted... which he will be if he doesn't improve his play... he wouldn't count against the cap either).

Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m)

David Booth ($4.250m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m)

Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Mike Santorelli ($0.550m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)

Brenden Morrow ($2.250m) / Brad Richardson ($1.150m) / Dale Weise ($0.750m)

Tom Sestito ($0.750m) /

DEFENSEMEN

Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)

Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Chris Tanev ($1.500m)

Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Yannick Weber ($0.650m)

Frank Corrado ($0.599m)

I would be happy to sign him for less than a million if u put him on the 4th and took out sestito. Otherwise no thanks.

Need a center for 3/4th line.

Rookie centers haven't impressed enough and missing a Schroeder who doesn't really fit that position anyways.
