[Rumour] Pittsburgh Desperate for Kesler, NYR, DET AND CBJ Join Race

Recommended Posts

Maata is a much safer player who makes calm decisions under pressure. That's why he's able to play in the NHL at a younger age.

Pouliot takes more chances but has a much higher reward factor. Players like him usually take a little longer to develop because they have to spend time learning when to be aggressive and when not to be.

I think also to add is that Maata will always be a safe player. A very good safe player, but with the team that we have and lack of game breakers, Pouliot makes a good fit. He alone can overtake a game based on his offensive and skating skill and can be a big game breaker.

We dont have a lot of game breakers, and Pouliot has the potential to do that. Not saying Maata can't do it either, but Pouliot is a dynamic player that can make a difference.

Our D is fine, Harrington & Pouliot are both close to NHL ready, and we don't exactly have room for them (plus we already have some defenseman like Corrado & Hutton in our system)

I would rather target Bennett before Harrington or Sutter, we lack young high end offensive players in our organization that can play now.

Our D is not fine. We lack puck moving D-men and our offense is suffering because of it.

Corrado and Hutton are a long ways away from being top defenders. Pouliot and Harrington should be NHL ready in a year or two.

Bennett is not making an impact right now. He's still developing. Guys like Jensen and Shinkaruk will likely be on his level by next season. If we're going for forward depth it's for a center or nothing IMO.

You must be kidding comparing Corrado with Pouliot. Corrado is not blue chip

Pittsburgh needs maata and IMO pouliot is a lot bigger need for us anyways. While maata may be better than Tanev in physical aspects of the game, he's still just the young steady eddy we already have.

A guy like pouliot is something we've never had and are constantly begging for. An offensive star that can skate like Duncan Keith. You pair that with a guy like Tanev down the road and you got a dream tandem.

When I watched the winter hawks play this year pouliot was flying and making creative plays the entire game while cederholm watched his back.

The kids a star in the making and if you can get Pitts to beef up the offer around him because maata isn't in the deal, then I'm sold.

I disagree about our D. I think they're better than you give them credit for. I think our offense is hurting our defense production.

this is a lot of fun .. been a while since I've actually been excited about the future of this team

:) Last time we were a seller was when we sold Mogilny to NJ for Morrison and Pederson. That helped turned our franchise around. And Mogilny got himself a shiny Cup ring. I think that worked out well for everyone.

I think it's fair to note Kesler would be a huge draw for columbus as he spent almost 5 years playing in Ohio.

As well I was pretty loud leading up to the draft about dealing Kesler to Columbus for jenner and a couple of picks.

And finally, Kesler gives Columbus something they don't have yet. An almost guaranteed shot at the playoffs. Youth is good, but redundant youth, not so much.

We have redundant youth at LHD. Columbus is going to have redundant youth at the c position very soon with jenner Rychel Umberger Johansen Atkinson Wennberg and more in their system.

Jenner + Rychel + 1st for Kesler gives them a solid shut down PP specialist player that they'll have to wait for Jenner to develop into. Losing a single prospect a redundant player in jenner (if Kesler is brought in) and a pick is not too terribly bad if the actual return is entrance into the playoffs, improved recognition via local star and more merch sales.

Exactly.

Kesler gives them the immediate star power they've been lacking since Nash left. It also sends a strong signal to season ticket holders and corporate sponsors.

I wouldn't opt for Rychel over Wennberg though if we have a choice. Rychel, though dangerous with the puck on his stick, has too many holes in his game. He's a risk that I wouldn't take here.

Wennberg has legitimate 1st line potential and we need that. He's a wizard who plays both sides of the puck. Upside Datsyuk, downside Bergeron. I'll take that risk over Rychel being too slow to get to the puck. At least for our situation.

Kunitz is only putting up those numbers because he's playing with the best player in the league, giving up 2 huge assets for a guy that probably won't do anything on our team + one first rounder would have gillis burned at the stake. Kes, Edler can fetch us minimum 3 to 5-6 assets easily.

neal 39 games 48 pts 22g 26a

kunitz 48 games 52 pts 22g 30a

kesler 62 games 39 pts 21g 18s

edler 44 games 15 pts 5g 10a

and im sure if the sedins can make a third liner like burrows look like a first liner, they can do the same with kunitz, plus neal is a amazing sniper on the pp and otherwise.

we get rid of edler (he is a defensive liability)

we get the offence we need

less salary payroll

and a first rounder to tip the cake

bad - loss of kesler, but he doesn't seem to play with anyone on this team anyway

The issue with that is taking 2 centers away now leaves them less than redundant and weak in depth down the middle. I'd be happy with Wennberg but wouldn't be unhappy with Rychel at all
