CB007
Eklund: Steve Anthony To Florida? It looks like Canucks prospect Steven Anthony could be apart of the deal to send Luongo to Florida. Checking on it now. Source: Speculation
Tortorella's Rant
McKenzie says snubbing Lu for the H.C. pissed Luongo off enough it put him right over the top and he demanded out. Lu had a new agent going back to last season I believe and so the new agent made it happen immediately.
peaches5
Which was a direct result of his "Doesn't matter what he wants" comment about Kesler earlier. That was childish and unprofessional. I'm just glad the drama queen is gone and we can move on with some promising youth. I think thats exactly what got him traded. I don't think Tortorella liked that at all and probably went to MG and the owners and said get rid of him.

Lonny_Bohonos_14
8 minutes ago @GMillerTSN: Vancouver retains part of Luongo's salary as part of the deal with Florida. Is this just salary, or is this cap space? If it's just cash, then who cares.
EmilyM
Apparently this trade did in fact stem from Lu sitting out the heritage classic and Lu's agent made the call to MG I heard that too. But I find it hard to believe that Lu was sat in the Heritage Classic. Then two days later Gillis is able to trade him? I find it hard to believe Gillis could've pulled off the deal in two days considering the teo preceding years he couldn't.
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
So only about 800K in cap dollars retained per season? I can live with that...
Dragonfruits
i'm ready for a retool rebuild whatever you call it get younger trade core pieces hopefully they can move Kesler and Edler as well people wanted a big move this is what happens
86Viking
gillis i knew all along he was the wrong gm. man this is sad. we could have done this last year, had schneider and then let him and kesler be our future. instead our gm screws it up big time and does this, yikes, gonna be some rough roads ahead before we are a playoff threat
jimmyking8888
This is a good trade for the Canucks, bad trade for the Panthers.
elvis15
Hearing it's Lu for Makstrom, Matthias, Jovocop and a potential pick You should get your hearing checked. Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC Luongo and Steven Anthony for Markstrom and Matthias. Canucks are picking up part of the salary....will be finalized after trade call 15% retained by the Canucks, basically about $800K/yr currently. Mike Gillis pulled off a move like this? Mike Gillis? MIKE GILLIS??! Don't be so surprised. Some people have made it clear they really don't understand the moves he's made that have been good (i.e. Ehrhoff). Darkstar
One of the better things about this trade is knowing that Warhippy was completely wrong regarding Luongo's value, especially since he attacked everyone on the boards for thinking otherwise. CB007
Does anyone know if Markstrom's just not very good or does FL suck at D?
*VaNcOuVeRCaNuCkS*
Yes it will be around $800,000 retained cap
coyotecanuck
Canucks make good on promise to trade Lu. I have long term faith in Lack. Could be short term pain but that's what we were in for now anyway. Canucks now have a dearth of young keepers.
aqua59
Mike Gillis pulled off a move like this? Mike Gillis? MIKE GILLIS??! Luongo's agent probably had more to do with this than Gillis, I bet.
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
So is this the final deal? TO FLORIDA: Roberto Luongo (15% retained) + Steven Anthony TO VANCOUVER: Jacob Markstrom + Shawn Matthias

Hyzer
Gillis is disgusting. We traded Schneider and Luongo, 1 future hall of fame goaltender and 1 solid #1 starter for Horvat, Markstrom, and Matthias? AND WE STILL RETAIN SALARY? Hope Gillis is getting the boot soon.
