[Report] Johansen and CBJ far apart on a new deal

Too many parts going back, take away Shinkaruk and I'd be fine with it

Bonino

Tanev

Hansen

1st rounder

Markstrom

Glad posters are discussing this idea, & agree it probably represents quite an overpayment. To get such a player, it would likely require significantly overpaying.

Prior to the deal occurring, we'd have to agree to a reasonable number with RJ. He'd prob jump for the chance to play at home.

I wouldn't overpay if it were a strong team(eg:Chi, Det, Bos), but CLB makes it different. If they ever won a Cup, good for them, but it's not a market that players really want to play in. They'll always have these issues with top players.

Again: Shinkaruk, Bonino, Hansen, Tanev, 2015 1st(protected top 10) & Lack.

Get them to include 2 of their dud prospects(for the 50 contract matter, make 1 a D man) & Johansen.

Daniel.. Henrik ..Vrbata

Burrows.. Johansen ..Kassian

Higgins.. Matthias ..Vey

Sestito.. Rich ..Dorsett

Would leave room for Jensen and/or Horvat. Comets could still add guys like Gaunce, Fox & Kenins. Our D would be hurt in losing Tanev, but Miller would get a chance to earn his keep.

Losing Lack would be tough(really like the guy), but who's to say his career will definitely surpass Markstrom & Eriksson? Who really knows(especially with Demko also in the pipeline)?

The teams that might rival this package, probably don't have the cap space(to add Johansen), nor are their pieces as reasonable & diverse(all positions). Tanev, Lack, Bonino & Hansen around 7.5 mill, mostly locked in for 2~3 years, would be attractive for a non-enticing market like Columbus. Hard for them to land key vet FA's.

Our future at C? Fine even without Henrik, down the road...

Johansen, Horvat, McCann, Gaunce, etc...

Another note: Ive seen it mentioned in many threads but here. That 1st round pick next year is worth more than in the past because its such a deep pool next year. Seems a bit undervalued in some of the offers.

Also remember, if Columbus cant come to an agreement with RJ then it comes down to us outbidding the next guy - it helps if it is what Columbus actually needs but if someone offers a better package that doesnt fit their exact needs then they may still win.

Gotta hope here that RJ lays it down like Kesler and gives Columbus a small pool of teams to negotiate with.

First off. They have until Dec 1 to work out a deal and still have him eligible to play this season. Even if he doesn't sign before then he still doesn't become a UFA for another 4 years.

In the unlikely event that they do decide to trade him Johansen has zero say in where he goes . He can't "lay it down like Kesler". The only negotiating tool he has at this point is to hold out until he gets the deal both he and the team can live with. But I seriously doubt he'll forgo a full years salary to get what he wants.

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline

Dispatch: #CBJ, Johansen's agent no closer to deal, with training camp looming less than one month away http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2014/08/19/kekalainen-doesnt-want-johansen-to-hold-out.html …

Yesterday was the first time either side would discuss the possibility of a training camp holdout by Johansen, and Overhardt has history.

Overhardt clients who have held out of training camp: Turris (PHX), Dubinsky (NYR), Turco (DAL), Shields (SJ), Morrison (NJ).

Also, Overhardt represents Ryan Kesler, who signed an offer sheet with Flyers as training camp neared in 2006.

Johansen due to arrive in Columbus on Wednesday, will workout with the group of players in town even if a contract isn't reached.

Not sure where this goes from here. Maybe a last minute deal, or does it push into the season?

As this goes on, the more pressure for both of them to get a deal done. One will bite it's just a matter of which, you don't want this to become a distraction either if your the Jackets' GM because you're coming off a big season with your team and don't want to shake anything in that locker room.

2 year deal, or whatever gets him to UFA status. And we swoop him up. Get it done.

Not sure we have, or want to give up, the pieces necessary to acquire him.

I think he's 4 years away from UFA status. Also, it has been widely reported that Columbus will NOT sign a contract that will take him to his UFA year. They are looking for a maximum deal of 3 years
