Good solid signing. Another young buck to plant in Utica.

Sautner-Subban

Cederholm-Pedan

Hutton-Biega

Curious how that is going to shape up

I hope we soon get to read

"Matt O'Connor Talk"

And

"Ahti Oksanen Talk"

oksanen would be another good pickup our defensive prospects are looking to be much improved

Considering how empty our defensive prospect cupboard was/is, this is pretty good. It's also nice to see that Benning realizes this issue, since he's bringing in guys like Clendening, Pedan, Sautner, etc. They might not be shining prospects, but its nice to actually have some.

I thought his numbers were quite high for a d-man so I looked into it. According to HF boards he's been playing Right Wing all season because the coach thought he'd be better suited for the pro game as a winger http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1532849

Makes for an interesting prospect that he can do both. I guess he would have potential to be like a byfuglien type guy. Pair him with a quality defensive partner like Tanev and maybe he could thrive. Also has a big time shot from the point. We haven't had a fin in our d corpse who could wire it in a couple years ;)

I watched him with the Oil Kings during the Memorial Cup and quite a bit of games during his career watching junior hockey/prospects in my spare time. He's a pretty solid player, he isn't an offensive defenceman but he's a pretty good skater, good first pass and makes the right decisions with the puck. He keeps a good positioning defensively when the teams are coming off the rush, doesn't give the player much space to get around him. He reminds me a bit of Sbisa but I haven't seen him make some dumb decisions like Sbisa has done this season. Smooth skater with great agility but good overall speed and acceleration, moves the puck well with crisp passes, hits well and uses his good skating ability to his advantage defensively with gap control.

He doesn't really excel in anything but he's kind of like a good at everything, not great in anything. Some teams have those players but you can develop this guy to maybe like a Jake Muzzin where he's pretty good offensively even though he's not a PPQB but defensively he's pretty reliable and physical but isn't a guy like Regehr.

That description reminds me more of another Kings d-man: Alec Martinez.

Your description of him (can do a bit of everything but doesn't excel at any one thing) is much like what I read about Roland Mckeown before last year's draft.

oksanen and occonnor would be sweet pickups as well sautner flew under radar not sure how this go wasnt signed before he has better numbers than reinhart crazy. benning is stocking farm so good.

heres my list of players id target at draft if we get a few picks at draft though trading higs hansen burrows richardson

lets trade get 2-3 of these guys il be happy

provorov mid 1st

ryan pilon early 2nd hopefully he falls i think hes better than ranking as well

rasmus anderson ranked 84th in central scouting but could go as early late first round

rantanen winger/c ** could go in top 5-10

barzal c top ten possibly

zacha c could go top 10

bittner winger top 25

http://www.thestarphoenix.com/Defenceman+Sautner+signs+with+Canucks/10888347/story.html

Saskatchewan native and Edmonton Oil Kings captain Ashton Sautner has signed his NHL entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks, according to his agent.

The Flaxcombe product’s signature was barely dry on the three-year deal when he faxed over the papers to his agent, Jeff Helperl, before heading to his latest WHL game.

“It’s so exciting,” Sautner said in a brief phone interview before his Oil Kings took on the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday. “I can’t thank my friends and family enough for all of their support over the years.”

Sautner is enjoying his best offensive WHL season.

The undrafted 20-year-old was 12th in scoring among blue-liners heading into Friday’s action with 48 points.

what do you think of ryan pilon guy has great numbers in whl could be ppqb benning has been looking for only ranks 30th in north america could be another steal

The rest of that is somewhat realistic but good luck getting provorov mid-first with the way he's shot up

So, here is a REAL BIG STRETCH...

Mark Giordano was signed as a undrafted UFA after two very good OHL seasons. 68GP 18G 30A 48TP 109PM +1 as a 19 year old; 65GP 14G 35A 49TP 72PIM +1 as a 20 year old; 6'0", 200 lbs.

Ashton Sautner...signed as undrafted UFA. 72GP 8G 34A 42 TP 26PM +59 as a 19 year old; 69GP 12G 36A 48TP +18 as a 20 year old; 6'1" 194 lbs.

If by some grace of hockey gods that Sautner becomes half the player Giordano has become after being an undrafted UFA, Benning will have landed a very good player.
