Disgusting, but does minors that are 13 and 14 still count as children??

I thought it was once you hit the thirTEEN, fourTEEN, you're more likely to be called a Teenager than a child??

STILL DISGUSTING THOUGH! I think all pedophiles/child molesters/child rapists/rapists/Repeated Sex Offenders should be locked up forever.

Its stupid we have people locked up for eternity in posession of illegal substances, but you only get 5 years for preying on innocent children. Effed up world we live in.

And all this talk about rehab-ing these POS to normal is BS, how many actually get "cured"? How many cases where they get back out, live on welfare, and prey on another innocent victim? I've read way too many, one case from 2013 in US, comes right to mind, Cherish Perriwinkle, poor girl.

I believe it is just legally. You are ether legally an adult or a child so people as old as 17 will still be referred to as children.

Age of consent is a weird law though because it varies place to place. For example a 20 year old who is sexually active with his 16 year old girlfriend in Pennsylvania is legal. But travel say 15 minutes south down a state to Delaware and a 20 year old who is sexually active with his 16 year old girlfriend can legally be charged as a sex offender. But then you can go to Mexico where age of consent ranges from 12-14. Much of Europe is 14 and 15. It is kind of odd, all cultures condemn pedophilia but have different rules on what it is.

Jared is as low as they get though. When a guy is taking interest in girls as young as 6 it is pretty scary.

I can't fathom the sexual gratification in a child who isn't even sexually developing yet, but no doubt this guy should be far away from children and in a mental institution if this is the case.

Until a person is finished puberty they are a child. 14 is a child.

I can see the commercial now....

His name is Jared, it's Jared!

He got tired of the taste of burgers and fries, tried under age escorts on for size.

Now it's clear to everyone, he should be taking a foot long in his bun.

Yeah the arbitrary lines are not well thought out I think.

My opinion always has been a person by the age of 13-14 can be "granted" sexual permission by their parents, but if the parents don't give consent then it goes up to 18. I mean what's worse in terms of sexual exploitation, a 17 year old having sex with a 14 year old or a 50 year old having sex with a 16 year old, some places one is illegal and the other isn't.

What is Canada's age of consent?

The age of consent for sexual activity is 16 years. It was raised from 14 years on May 1, 2008 by the Tackling Violent Crime Act.

However, the age of consent is 18 years where the sexual activity "exploits" the young person -- when it involves prostitution, pornography or occurs in a relationship of authority, trust or dependency (e.g., with a teacher, coach or babysitter). Sexual activity can also be considered exploitative based on the nature and circumstances of the relationship, e.g., the young person's age, the age difference between the young person and their partner, how the relationship developed (quickly, secretly, or over the Internet) and how the partner may have controlled or influenced the young person.

Are there any exceptions to this?

The Criminal Code provides "close in age" or "peer group" exceptions.

For example, a 14 or 15 year old can consent to sexual activity with a partner as long as the partner is less than five years older and there is no relationship of trust, authority or dependency or any other exploitation of the young person. This means that if the partner is 5 years or older than the 14 or 15 year old, any sexual activity will be considered a criminal offence unless it occurs after they are married to each other (in accordance with the "solemnization" of marriage requirements that are established in each province and territory, governing how and when a marriage can be performed, including the minimum age at which someone may marry).

There is also a "close-in-age" exception for 12 and 13 year olds: a 12 or 13 year old can consent to sexual activity with another young person who is less than two years older and with whom there is no relationship of trust, authority or dependency or other exploitation of the young person.

Are 16 and 17 year olds also protected against sexual exploitation?

The Criminal Code protects 16 and 17 year olds against sexual exploitation, where the sexual activity occurs within a relationship of trust, authority, dependency or where there is other exploitation. Whether a relationship is considered to be exploiting the 16 or 17 year old will depend upon the nature and circumstances of the relationship, e.g., the age of the young person, the age difference between the young person and their partner, how the relationship developed and how the partner may have controlled or influenced the young person. As well, 16 and 17 year olds cannot consent to sexual activity that involves prostitution or pornography.

I think they are thought out pretty well in Canada.

Saw it on Facebook. The Raw Story or some other source.

Hmm. Well, not calling "shenanigans", but the only decade long + I could find in a brief search were either marijuana distributors, traffickers, or had a grow op.

Think it's just easier not to do anything illegal, right Jared?

Pedophiles are into children, pederasts are into young teens. And yes age of consent is different in different places, a 50 year old guy where I work married a 19 year old Phillapina girl on his last vacation. Legal yes, moral? not for me.

Wait, a 19 year old adult isn't ok in your books?
