canucksnhl
All text in red was posted on 12/23/2016. See below for new proposal. Why not? Jaromir Jagr and the Sedins have a lot in common. They're all PPG players and they all love to play hockey. Jagr would be an awesome mentor and line-mate for them by showing his process of playing into his mid-40s. Not to mention he has more points than both of them combined. Jagr: 1802 Jagr now: 1888 Sedins: 1796 Sedins now: 1956 Numbers don't lie. Plus there's that photo that has gone viral on Facebook about some 18-year model who tried to blackmail him 50k in Czech currency for sleeping with her. But his response: "I don't care". We need that "I don't give a crap attitude" in our locker room! Turns out she was the girlfriend of a d-man from the Czech World Junior team. And it would be his first Canadian city! It would probably be cheaper to acquire him now, but a trade at the deadline for the playoffs would be fine as well but it could be more expensive depending on his performance this year. I figured it should only cost us a mid-round draft pick based on previous rental player deals. To Vancouver: Jagr To Florida: 2016 3rd round pick (2nd rounder at the deadline assuming Florida is out of the playoff picture) Sedin-Sedin-Jagr What do you think? How about let's reconsider this proposal? To Vancouver: Jagr To Florida: 2017 2nd round pick Vancouver does this because Jagr wants to play until he's 50 so there's lots of time for the Sedins to win a few Cups with him. This line is meant to be. Sedins are fit enough to play a while because of their smart play which has extended their playing career by avoiding/preventing serious injuries. We would have a Hall of Fame top line!! Come on people! Sedin-Sedin-Jagr

-AJ-
I don't see much reason to invest in the future of the twins. They are here to help guide us into the next generation with guys like Tanev, Edler, Horvat and whoever else succeeds along the way.

Yep, those Sedin kids are badly in need of mentoring. (Ok, that's the way it's written, I presume the OP didn't mean it quite that way.) Jagr's contract, including bonuses, is for an AAV of $5.4 million, at the age of 43 he's really year to year and won't be around when the Canucks might have a chance to get back to the top of the league, so he can only be a short-term improvement and only if something close to $5 million in AAV goes the other way. I can't comment more without knowing what is proposed to be traded for him. As presently posted, the original post contains a target player but no proposal about how to get him. It's hard to see a trade for him that makes sense for both the Panthers and the Canucks.
ice orca
Why would he want to come here? he has a nice tax haven in Florida as well as the fine fine weather.
Hunter.S-Kerouac
Man it sure would have been great to have Jags. At this point though the Sedins should be beginning to transition to doing the Mentoring. I see Brock Boser as a potential huge benefactor of some Sedin time down the road. elvis15
People keep suggesting it, but also keep forgetting he has no interest in coming out West. He'll stay in the East (particularly in the warm, Florida weather) where the travel is much easier.

Green Goblin
I figured it should only cost us a mid-round draft pick based on previous rental player deals. To Vancouver: Jagr To Florida: 2016 3rd round pick (2nd rounder at the deadline assuming Florida is out of the playoff picture) Florida has to retain some of that salary for it to make sense for us. Having Vrbata and Jagr on the RW is no doubt an improvement from last year; where we had to play Vrbata on the 1st and 2nd line at times... Burrows can play anywhere in the line-up so I'm not worried about which line he plays on. This got me excited... but I highly doubt it happens. Jagr already has a couple Cups. cripplereh
Lock there has been this topic before hand!Plus we are trying to get younger which means NO WAY we trade for the oldest player!
SaintPatrick33
Jagr's game works perfectly with the Sedins. At 44 he is still the top puck protecting guy in the game! Imagine him cycling with the Sedins, waiting for that perfect pass, it would be heavenly to watch. We could have used him a few years ago when we still had the old core
DownUndaCanuck
I'd go for him if we were willing to get rid of our current veterans like Higgins and Burrows. To be honest, Jagr would be the best mentor any kid could have, and the Panther kids are going to become stars thanks to Jagr's tutorship. 1) Trade Burrows for a 2nd round pick 2) Trade Higgins for a 2nd or 3rd round pick 3) Acquire Jagr for maybe a bunch of picks/prospects if we're lucky Sedin - Sedin - Vbrata Baertschi - Sutter - Jagr Dorsett - Horvat - Hansen Gaunce - Vey - Prust Excluding our first line stars, we have one veteran on each line, one kid, one giant body, one skilled forward and one defensive specialist. Bang Bang Boogie
Jagr would have been the perfect winger for the Sedins 10 years ago.
Nuxfanabroad
Had we drafted him, I wonder how he, Linden & Bure would have co-existed? How well would that have worked? Probably the Griffiths would have had 1 dealt fairly quickly, for financial reasons.
MeanSeanBean
Jagr is one of my all time faves, but he just doesn't fit in on this team IMO. His style is literally, do what ever he wants and score goals because he can. Dude is unpredictable and does weird thing cause it works for him. I don't see that working well with the twins, at all. And I also don't see it working for the talent we have on our 2nd line. Also, he's like 64 by now, we're not planning a cup run, redundant. Hunter_74
I'm praying for the sake of my 18-year-old girlfriend that Jagr doesn't get traded to the Nucks.
