If Francesco was actually a good business man

If you look at the stats, we are arguably the worst, at least 2nd worst team in the NHL right now behind CBJ.

We all know Aquilini refuses to accept missing the playoffs because even if we lose in the first round, 2 home games and 2 away games in the post season make him close to 2 million. By comparison, they made 40 million during the 2011 cup run in the playoffs alone.

Luigi is the one that made all the big bucks when land in Vancouver was cheap, so who knows what Francesco can actually do.

But if we drafted Austin Matthews, he could easily make over 2 million before the season even starts - commercials, merchandise, promotions for the nhl brand itself. Not to mention, tickets would be in demand again and we would have a franchise player unlike any hyped up player we have ever had. Having Austin Matthews would instantly increase the team's net worth and marketability.

The reason why tickets are down is because the Aquilini's have put the same stale product on the ice since 2012 and the hickey just slowly keeps getting harder and harder to watch.

Getting Matthews is no garauntee, but is by far more likely than us making the playoffs - go look at the vegas line on that.

Clearly he isn't. Because if he was a good businessman he'd be a bazillionaire, not a mere billionaire. pfff.

BTW How many billions did your dad make when properties were cheap in Vancouver, before handing the keys over to you to run the business empire?

Spell "Guarantee."

Also, we're ahead of the team "everybody" had picked as a lock to win the Stanley Cup, so ya got a feel-good story right there.

Finishing dead last gives us a 20% chance at Matthews. or a 4 in 5 chance of not getting him.

That being said, with these injuries, for the first time in a decade, I'm leaning towards Team Tank.

I've said it before and will say it again. If he wanted to make 2 million from playoff revenue why wouldn't he just make us a team that spends to the cap floor and save $18.6 million dollars. If he was in it for the money he could be like Ottawa's owner and save money on signing players instead of making a little bit every year from two playoff home games.

These are secrets only OP knows.

He wants the playoff money because he wants to sell the team. A bottom feeder team won't sell as well as a playoff team. Let's hope he sells it fast, but I hear he wants a redonkulous amount of money for it so until then, make the playoffs or else find a new job.

Do you have sources that he's looking to sell the team? This is the first I've heard of it.

Lets see...Aquilinis purchased the team for $200 to $250 schmil and today, it's valued at nearly a bil, and they probably can get $750 schmil for it if they sold it at a market discount.  And what else?  Oh yeah...rich TV contracts that generate passive income for CSE, which is just one of a mix of businesses the family owns and operates.

Aquilinis are probably smart enough to have hedged their Canadian money against US currency, so the only thing affected is the revenues from ticket sales which will be down based on currency exchange and drop in attendance (but the empty seats probably are insured so they probably generate income even if they're empty); merchandise sales have probably dropped because prices have gone up because of exchange rate, but they still draw a whack of dough from licensing agreements Bettman has signed on the owners' behalf...yah, so these Aquilinis...they're a bunch of dumb dumb billionaires (especially Frank).

If you think the ownership group is happy about the pee poor product on the ice after spending to the cap year-after-year to try and stock the team with players who they HOPE as much we, as fans do, will be competitive and entertaining, you might want to give that a second thought.  Other than some meddling (which is speculative on our part), which every ownership group has a right to (they're the ones who are taking the risk...unless you've got $500 schmil+ or access to that sort of do-ray-me, the only thing you've invested is purchasing tickets and buying some merchandise and watching the team on tv which makes you nothing more and nothing less than one of hundreds of thousands customers), I think we have very good local ownership.

Information and knowledge...know how to acquire it...learn how to use it.  It will serve you well.  Or go to Vegas and lay a hundo on black.  Do whatever floats your boat.

Great post. Should get some of these Benjamins to clam up.
