Not to sane people they didn't. Of course lotsof people here are still upset about losing Grabner.... because... well you know... was going to score 50 goals a year. I thought he might get better , but I did think that he was one of those entitled kids, and the family meddling thing wasn't never going to help him I really like Cody too, and even hoped he would do well when traded to Buffalo. He did hurt his back in training in (I think) his second season with us. He seemed to lose something in his skating after that. I remember AV referring to Cody not having any "pop" is his legs. Maybe you remember this better than me?
YEGCanuck
I'm guessing the influence of Cody's jerk of a Dad had something to do with his non-success in pro-hockey. NHL teams may be smart to really research the attitudes and personalities of draft prospects before making their selection.
Nuxfanabroad
All these yrs the club didn't really have their own farm team, did they? Likely there's a strong correlation with franchises hitting more draft wins, by fully controlling their development. Stands to reason we'll hit higher draft-percentages, with Utica's stability. & of course, nowhere to go, but up^..one would hope.

Some scouts saw problems in his attitude.
-Vintage Canuck-
If had waited a bit longer in Vancouver, he would have eventually been the second line centerman after a Kesler trade. This would have impacted a lot of things - the Kassian trade wouldn't have happened, acquiring Bonino, trading for/signing Sutter...

He did score 34. 20 the following year, 16 in 45 during the lockout year (which translates to about 29 over a full season). Ran into injury problems. Funny thing is Grabner was supposed to be a boom / bust offensive player, but he gained his niche in the league more as a penalty killer than a power play specialist, mostly in the bottom six. In Toronto he was having trouble scoring but was great defensively. With more minutes he has 8 points in his last 10 games and is a +9 on the year (best amongst all Leafs forwards). I think that is the case as well. I think we would have developed into a decent 2nd line centre. A bit one-dimensional, and not a first line player by any stretch. He's just not that good, didn't earn it. Glad we got Prust for him and a 5th

Glad we got Prust for him and a 5th He had 41 points in his rookie year, on pace for mid-high 50s his second year (lockout), and 44 in 72 the following. He was pretty much there. Something weird happened to him last year in Buffalo, he just became really bad. Not really sure what happened to him.
