Hit of the year by Alexander Edler

When you search around, you can find lots of Edler actually making hard hits.  Patrick Kane, Christ Stewart, Drew Doughty, Ryan Smythe, etc.... then after his back surgery and 2011... he just seemed a little off.

He first started as a bigger, faster and offensively gifted version of Ohlund, but less gritty (Ohlund doesn't mind the rough stuff) and with a big slapshot.  Ice in his veins, "Automatic Alex", smooth skating, etc.

Now... he doesn't hit as much anymore, he second guesses himself all the time, his confidence is in the crapper, sluggish when skating.....

Is his body just breaking down?  Maybe he's just a player who will always need a "safety blanket"?

Don't understand what's happened to his game at home..  that fire seemed "out" most times last season.

Ive been proposing we move him, espescially during this past season..

But for the benifit of the doubt..

A new Coach.    A Team that will be grittier,. we know Edler can't fight,. But he has had no one to back his physical game up.. Bring in Pedan, Gudbranson, LaBate, Dorsett types and drop Edlers TOI to around the 17-20 min mark,.  And do not overplay or stack his minutes in the 3rd period.

Maybe his game normalizes..   ??

Maybe Edler is a victim of player deployment (past coach's name withheld) in the name of "Winning",. and playing a player outside of his strength and into a weakness of stacked 3rd period minutes?

We know Edler can be a beast.   Can a new Coach find that again?

Edler is the latest whipping boy in Vancouver.  Due to injuries and youth, the Canucks defense was a bit of a revolving door this year.  Edler was thrust in to a position where he had to carry much of the load as the Canucks regularly iced a team with several rookie/2nd year Ds plus Edler and Tanev.

Is Edler a powerplay quarterback? No.

Can he be useful on a powerplay? I think he can.

One of the biggest challenges for the new coaching staff is to revamp the powerplay and I imagine Edler will be part of that.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Edler, but it can't be just a salary dump situation. Despite the snarky comments from media and bloggers, Edler still has value.

I think Edler's suspension history may have toned down his play a bit.  As a repeat offender and with the inconsistency of NHL discipline, he could have the book thrown at him for a seemingly innocuous play that happens to go wrong.

He made another one in the same game. Has there been an awakening? Have you felt it?

That one was a little high/head target for for my liking, but Edler seems to step it up for his country. It could just be that it's something to play for, whereas in Vancouver the last two seasons I can't blame a veteran guy for being less involved emotionally.

Meh

Mediocre hit at best

Doesn't fix that he looks like he is skating with cement boulders on. Breaks 3-4 sticks a game. Is obsessed with thinking he is a goalie. And lastly is looking like a downright awful defense man being paid as a top pairing one.

Rant over

Man the hate and garbage comments against Alex is off the charts in this thread.

IMO that definitely was a hit of the year candidate. It's as clean as it gets and he completely wiped that guys clock.

GOAT!
