2017-18 Utica Comets Thread

Recommended Posts

Comets win, and put up back to back 5-2 wins on home ice to tie up the series and force a Game 5. Toronto thoroughly outshot the Comets 42-20, but Utica was more opportunistic and Demko was outstanding. Thoroughly entertaining game, can only imagine what it felt like watching it live. Demko was in the zone all night and anticipated almost everything the Marlies could throw at him. Goldobin was impressive not only on the offensive side, but made several good plays backchecking in his own end without the puck. Had two great assists on both of Boucher's goals, who was electric. Darcy very good on that line as well. Carcone continues his run of good play, creating space for his teammates and getting a goal for himself on the PP with a nice screen in front. MacMaster was very notable in the second period as mentioned, definitely been one of the most pleasant surprises for the Comets late in the season. Quiet game for Dahlen, who had a nice chance late set up by Hamilton on a one timer, but no doubt this is valuable experience for him just being around a competitive atmosphere like this. Good bounce back effort from Sautner-Blujus as well on the back end. Lot of shots allowed but in general the Comets defense was calm under pressure and supportive of Demko when needed. They bent but didn't break.

Three stars: 1) Boucher, 2) Demko, 3) Goldobin. Game 5 goes Sunday in Toronto at 1:00 pst! Gonna be interesting to see who Toronto plays in goal, Comets have made Sparks look pretty bad the past couple of games... the Marlies will no doubt get some reinforcements as well. Regardless, this Utica team already has a lot to be proud of. Gutsy back to back wins to tie it up. Great win.

Just now, Where's Wellwood said:

Just think what could have been if Dahlen had played Game 1 which went to OT.

Dahlen hasn't made an impact to that degree, I don't think. What I'd be curious about is what would have happened if Boucher had been healthy enough to play the whole series... not sure the Comets are still alive if he's not playing right now.

&^@# those baby buds up!

I believe Goldobin and Demko have the ability to lead em to the finals like what Baertchi and Markstrom did for the comets in 2015.  I seriously think Goldobin can be a skilled enough foward to do it, and Demko is solid enough to bring em to the finals.  Dhalen and Jasek can be the silent assassins. If they make it far enough, enough time for the Comets to be reinforced by Juolevi and Pettersson looooook out.

Holy crap... Boucher with the ankle breaker of a toe drag, jeeeeez. 3-0 Comets. Gauthier completely wiped out trying to stay with him. Wow.

you can't see it on the replay but Goldobin picked somebody's pocket near center ice, calmly deeked his way over blue line and waited for Boucher, who made a sweet finish.  Boucher was best skater on the ice (Demko has been lights out and gets best overall) the last two games.

Boucher is making a big difference, listened to coach Trent Cull talk about Demko,Boucher and Goldobin...

Great team effort though coming back after 2 games down in best of 5...

Nothing wrong with Cole Cassels, Tyler Motte's and Zach Macewen's games tonight. Rock solid 200' games from them.

Loving Dahlen.  Kid is so smart out there.  Always in the right place.  On the third period power play he made three subtle plays that led to a goal.  Two were where TO was putting a lot of pressure on the 2d PP unit and Dahlen had to handle a couple hot bouncing passes with his back to the goal in the middle of the O zone under pressure.  He just sticks his foot out, redirects to his stick and quick little flat pass right to the open man.  Then TO eventually takes it away and blasts it around the boards.  Looks like it is going out but no he picks out of the air and settles it down.  A few passes later we score.

He does this all night.  Little plays; and he had a couple good chances too where just all of a sudden shows up in front of the net.  He better stock up on protein powder is all.
