It was a crime they didn't get the tournament taken away from them after they were caught systematically cheating in the last big athletic event in their country. The documentary Icarus is a great film about it. Not to mention continued doping charges in the Brazil and Korean Olympic games. Or the other shenanigans around the world. On paper England would be the better team if they had matched up. But I'd still be leery of a crooked ref. Because you just know that the Russians would be trying anything they could. Russia was not even expected to make it out of group stage. If you play a superior opponent the only way you win is park the bus and counter. Just look at Croatia first goal and you will understand why they could not play full attack. Jose Marinho made a career out of this type of football.
