if he makes the canucks next year, I wonder if they will shelter him for a season due to defensive issues?  Lots of pp time and selected 5v5 shifts, to keep him away from unfavourable matchups

I would wager it’s similar to Hutton’s rookie year.

0 pk time, less than 19 mins a night, 2nd unit pp (although I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets bumped up to first as the year rolls on).

This is probably what it will will look like, at least to start. Edler re-signing is a factor in this too.

I'd say there's logic and precedence there.

I would be shocked if he didn't start on the 1st unit, and if that doesn't happen, it will within the first month.  This guy is easily the best PP quarterback today in the Canuck's system, and is what he excels  at.  It's like this year when some suggested EP might start in Utica, and others said maybe centre in a few years, . . . and look what happened.

He has already played with the top NHLrs and didn't look out of place.  Hughes is elite offensively and a PP specialist.

If Quinn adapts as quickly to the NHL as Elias did, then we are in for a heck of a season next year as long as the damn injury bug doesn't decimate the team like it has in years past.

Seems to be a general trend for us to get hit by the injury bug. We should have great depth next year though as we have few (fortunately or not) UFAs coming off the books this year yet growing prospects such as MacEwen, Lind, Dahlen, Jasek, Gadjovich, Brisebois, Chatfield, Juolevi etc.

If Quinn plays for the Canucks next year they will have to pair him with either Edler or Tanev, IMO, depending on which side they have him play on. He will need to have an experienced D-man that can cover while he goes on the offense. It will also be very important for the forwards on his line to adapt to his play on the fly as he is very creative and can make passes that most players wouldn't even think of. I am hoping he gets to play a lot of 5 on 5 while Pettersson's line is on the ice and not just out for PP's.

Can't wait to see Bobby Orr in March or next year! He will help our pp immensel and we'll finally have another player other than Elias that can skate the puck from our blueline to theirs and not dump it in!

you have no idea if Hughes will be able to pull that off against the est players in the world.  I want to think he can, but at his size, it's not going to be easy

I thought it would be a foregone conclusion that he plays here as soon as his college season is done.

Now I actually believe they can’t do that.  Seattle being pushed to 2021 actually hurts us a lot with our kids not being excluded.  If Hughes plays more than 9 games this year he is not exempt from the expansion draft and takes a spot on the protected list.

That expansion draft may be a good time for us to get another young D for relatively cheap in trade.  We probably won’t have 3 guys really worth protecting, so another team who has too many to protect might happily trade that extra guy for an asset in return, at a much discounted value.

Right now we only have 8 signed players for 2021/2022, so I would not be too concerned with loosing any player. By that point this team should be on the path that we could offer Eriksson and our 1st or 2nd for them to select the last years of his contract. Haha wishful thinking

Well we will have a lot more signed by the time the expansion draft rolls along, so shooting our selves in the foot seems like bad planning for a minimal benefit.

Every One of our kids who turned pro this year playing in Utica will also need to be protected.

Again, if we are lucky enough to have extra spots on our protected list, that means we have the ability to trade for guys at a discount that another team would lose for nothing anyways.
