Canucks are the only team that are gonna get dinged on that bullcrap postfacto rule change by Buttman?

Would love to see the Canucks sue the NHL over this.

LA has had a recapture penalty fir the Richards contract for the past 2-3 seasons. So no, Vancouver is NOT the only team to get dinged

Umm waive them and send them to utica, buy out, or trade if you a get anything for them, even a cap floor team might want them

Only 1.075M can be buried this season.  Anything above still counts against the cap.

Other than Ottawa there doesn't look to be another team close to the floor.  Not sure it's even an issue.   They have 7 players to add and need 11.7M to reach the floor per CapFriendly.   Ceci is RFA and earned 4.3M last season.  White also needs a new contract.

It sucks on the Canucks Cap front, but full kudos to Lou for retiring.

He returned the favour to the team that took him that also bailed us out after his miss treatment in his final Canucks year.

In the end 2.2 mill difference will not make or break our next few seasons. Just look at Anaheim taking a 6 million cap hit next year for Corey Perry.

The difference is the timing....

Anaheim are just starting their rebuild, thus not needing to ability to spend to the cap, where as the trade for Miller suggests Benning wants to start the push now. Together with the fact our ELC, will start to need pay rises...

Do agree that after his treatment, why should he save Canucks bacon...

Not having our 1st kind of limits that option anyhow.

I know, I just hate this league sometimes.

But, like the man said, it is what it is. We just have to be competitive anyway.

they're off the books next year anyways, and try your best to move them

waive schaller and spooner and we're up 2 mil after Luongo's cap hit- too many here are panicking for zero reason. If he was going to do it better now than next year or the year after when the cap hit would hurt, now, meh, doesn't mean anything to us. Waive those too and we're fine

True.... but waiving these two would have given Benning even more room to manoeuvre that with the reduced cap space.

Not panicking, but every dollar count if you start to make a push... which I think is on Bennings mind.

Oh of course the only Canuck news we get out of Toronto Sports Network is negative news. Great job projecting our problems (not as bad as theirs) while not mentioning what the cap hell are they going to do... typical TSN. Can’t wait to see the headlines next week about a Mitch Marner offer sheet dilemma. But then again they will probably change the subject and spam the site with “KAWHI STAYS”. Selective reporting at its best.

there's some important differences tho. LA chose to end that contract. Florida clearly benefits from this. There's more factors involved in this.

And Vancouver benefitted from Luongo’s  contract in the early years. Giving them an artificially higher cap when they were a cup contender.

Florida is getting hit with $1m per season cap recapture as well. So it’s not like they’re getting off Scott free. Also, Vancouver could have headed this off years ago by using a compliance buyout on Luongo. They chose not to.

Not in that instance. He had spoken in length about looking forward to playing the Heritage Classic, and did deserve to play it based on his place on the team. He had every right to be insulted, in my opinion.

He did have an issue keeping his emotions in check during games though. That I agree with.

Yeah looking back on that situation is tough.  Horrible way to treat your #1 goalie and former captain.  Lu should have played in that game hands down.

Gonna miss bobby lu. Such a nice guy and great tv personality. Ya he had some low moments that must of been tough to handle. He LOVED this city and only left when he was forced out. I was a bobby lu out guy all the way through but because of his stubbornness we got Horvat! He will go down as top 5 nuck ever and the best goalie in canucks history. Him winning gold in 2010 with Canada, His win against Dallas in 4OT in his first playoff game, being captain, making save after save some games, Some even that were ridiculous to see.

Sucks we got a cap hit for next few seasons but we knew it was going to come sooner or later and it was best if he retired this summer. He had a great NHL career and got some srs $$$ with it.

Hope we raise his jersey this coming season! He will always be a Canuck for me!

I wish him, his family and friends the best in the future.
