morrissex95
I understand they can LTIR him and they get a fourth round pick but I still don't see how the Leafs benefit from this. They should've asked for a second or at least a third.
Mathew Barzal
Flexing their money muscles. Basically a free 4th round pick once they bury Clarkson.
kanucks25
After acquiring David Clarkson's contract, we now show the #Leafs with a projected cap hit of $82,234,699 ($734,699 above the $81.5M ceiling) with a roster of 22 (12F/8D/2G)Leafs can still place Horton & Clarkson on LTIR and potentially exceed the ceiling by as much as $10.55M Leafs only have to pay 20% of Clarkson's salary (real dollars), the rest is paid by insurance. Their cap is essentially unaffected. Edited July 23, 2019 by kanucks25
Popular Post Silver Ghost
Really hoping the nhl closes the LTIR loophole in the next CBA. It defeats the purpose of a salary cap when rich teams can use their cash strength to circumvent. If a player can no longer play, their contract should either be terminated or not be eligible to go on indefinite LTIR to create artificial cap space. At worst put provisions in place to pay thembut eliminate the incentive to teams to buy free cap space like that. 3

Will attend training camp without contract but won’t officially sign until 1st day of the season and Clarkson on IR?? Still a risky play for Marner Sounds like this is the case. Once Clarkson and Horton are LTIR'd, there will be enough cap-space to sign Marner. Perhaps they've already agreed to a deal and Marner's camp has assured the Leafs that they are not interested in signing an offer sheet to go elsewhere.
Silver Ghost
The league needs to investigate the situation if Marner magically attends training camp but doesnt sign until the first day of the season. Thats what they are going to do i bet. 1
rekker
Huh? Dont get it. For one, who's the back up in Toronto? Hutchison? They are gonna play the heck out of Andersson which I'm sure will go well. Not. Weird trade. Edit. I see the previous posts and seems a little shady to me. GhostsOf1994
Please correct me if i am wrong. They have clarkson and hortons hit on the cap for the first day of the nhl season? Then they get placed on ltir? Add marners 10m and they are at 90m+?
Popular Post RonMexico
Horton and Clarkson contracts are passed around like the village bike. I can't believe the league allows this garbage. 2 1 1
Popular Post canuckpuckluck1
Penalty recapture on the Luongo contract but this sort of thing is OK. That will do me! Before anyone rips in, I know this is within the rules...but so was the Luongo contract. 4 1 3

What do the Leafs do if Marner signs an offer sheet tomorrow? They can’t go over the cap by 10 % right? They might have no choice but to let Marner walk. Apparently, Trading for an injured player, who hasn't played in 3 years to manipulate cap space Is in the spirit of good league practise compared to us signing Roberto Maybe they will penalize Leafs down the road and change the rules (ya right) Edited July 23, 2019 by ba;;isticsports 1
Viper007
TML better hope that nobody gets hurt because they're not gonna be able to ice a hockey team if none of those players go on LTIR. 1
