CptCanuck16
I'm predicting another big win for the boys in blue with Bo, Boes, and Pettersson all getting on the score sheet.
DS4quality
3-2 philly Coach AV, comes in hot. Flyers are similar to us in they're rebuild, but have one of the best coaches in the league. I dont know how canucks will play coming off of that win on Wednesday. I thought we played good, but were the beneficiary of poor goaltending. Most our goals were on the rush. I don't think we'll be so lucky tonight, but it'll be a tight match

I used to send my son to the NYE game (versus the Flyers) as part of his Christmas present. I'm calling 5-2 Canucks. I'm so stoked...family's coming over to watch the game with me - they're bringing dinner. Lions game on beforehand. I love this stuff. When I first glanced at the roster on the GDT, I thought I saw, "LINDROS" on one of the jerseys and it stopped me short. Kinda hated ruining New Years Eve back then as the Flyers were so hard to beat. The Flyers used to "retire" to Severin's (Gai Paree Nightclub) in Burnaby after their games so it was kinda neat (but bittersweet) to see them at the club later. It was disco back then (I know, I know, but at least everybody danced and had a good time). Severin's parking lot side, where the party continued after last call: Also, don't miss the Lions game at 4:00; they're roaring again. 1 3

Popular Post oldnews
Some really interesting (imo) deployment 'trends' thus far - that were 'unpredictable' - but really interesting how Green is utilizing his lineup. Green has done this throughout his tenure here - he changes things up in unpredictable ways - but I'm not going to get into past seasons - just the first three games thus far. First is the Sutter Gaudette combination. While Sutter is a prototypical shutdown/matchup center - the interesting thing through 3 games is that he's been getting exceptionally high ozone starts - he and Gaudette are at 70% - the highest on the team (they're still facing strong qoc imo, but the situational use is interesting). It makes me think two things - first, that 'sheltering' Gaudette in this way is quite advantageous - good conditions in which to succeed as a young forward - and additionally - having guys like Beagle in the mix certainly helps give the flexibility to do so. The results have warranted it imo - those two (and JV) have looked great together. While EP and Boeser have not had the kind of territorial usage they did last year (a surprising 41% ozone starts through 3 games for EP) , they have had perhaps lower qoc and are producing better underlying numbers than last season. The other fairly interesting thing that stands out is the utilization of the Hughes Tanev pairing. Likewise, Hughes at 32.3% ozone starts in his first 3 games is 'surprising' - but very interesting and naturally leads to the question of what Green sees there. Like the EP line, his 'underlying'/shot differential numbers are very impressive in that context (60.3% corsi). I realize there are a few folks here that believe Hughes was not 'NHL ready' (perhaps micro-focussing on perceived 'mistakes') - so I raise this point to illustrate a few things - first, I think he has subtly been more effective defensively than some people might perceive (not only elite mobility, but he tends to get to key areas defensively'tends to read the play well and regardless of size/grit - gets to where he needs to be. The other thing that this deployment raises imo - are the zone exits this pair is capable of - both Hughes and Tanev have exceptional first passes - they're both exceptional 'edge-work' skaters and highly intelligent - you might not expect to see this pair drawing high dzone starts because of Hughes' youth and their size/grit - but I find it quite interesting that Green is using them this way (it appears to play to a few of their other strengths - particularly if you have strong forward groups and centers that can win those dzone starts - starting with the puck....and their ability to use all that extra ice in transition.... Anyhow - from EP/Boeser, to Hughes/Tanev and Sutter/Gaudette - interesing 'change-ups' from Green. Edited October 12, 2019 by oldnews 1

oldnews
I like the Flyers young group - about as exciting a future there as anywhere imo. Should be fun to watch. On top of all those young skaters (I think a lot of people are prejudging and underestimating Nolan Patrick) - Carter Hart looks unreal. Got to see a fair amount of him in junior - thought he'd be a gem (fantasy drafted him enthusiastically) - but who could have seen him doing what he already is. Exactly what that franchise has always seemed to need (at least since the era of Hextall himself).

ItTakesAnArmy
Been pretty much a 50/50 split in wins for the last 5 years or so. Philly has handled a couple of rebuilding teams. Canucks are rested and motivated to be hard to play at home. They face superior goal tending and a more rested team. Hard to predict a sure thing but OT or SO is just as possible.
