He was a kid, thought he had a good training camp but didn’t make the islanders line up out of camp and was sent to the AHL. At the start of the year, Green was lighting up the AHL with points and one of the top scorer in the AHL at the time. Two of the Islanders top 6 players were injured and they were calling players up. Green thought for sure he was gonna get called up and already started packing his stuff before he got a call. He was told by his coach he wasn’t one of the players they called up. He wasn’t happy about it but his coach told him “trust the process and you will get called up when the time is right. Right now, the timing isn’t right.” Years later, Green was really thankful he didn’t get called up then. He realized he wasn’t ready at the time and if he were called up then, he might have ruined his confidence and he would never have had the NHL career he had. It's funny because many are suggesting we are rushing the rebuild. I imagine most of the same people want to rush our prospects into the lineup.
