Honestly, the late 2 goals by Fiala made it look much closer than it was. It wasn't close for 57 minutes and 45 seconds. We dictated the play from the start. Great games by our entire forward group. However, Myers was terrible. 3 penalties in a row, on purely boneheaded plays. It was cringy. Worst part was that he took a penalty as soon as Boeser was getting sprung for an odd-man rush. That must have been super frustrating for him and the forward group. Myers is a battler for sure, but he definitely lacks hockey IQ. He might actually be the lowest IQ dman I think I've ever seen don a Canucks jersey. His reach saves him from the constant pressure he puts on himself and his defense partner. If he can clean it up, I won't be worried long. The battle in everybody was noticeable. I do want to single out 5 players specifically; Motte, EP, Bo, Stecher and Edler. Wow. Virtanen was a factor. Unleash him next game. He also wasn't covering his man on the sh goal as well as giving up a short handed breakaway which Virtanen had to be superman to get back on and break up. Horrible game for the giraffe. He needs to better next game.
Down by the River
The Canucks tried to finish the last six or so minutes of the game without getting into scrums. They just wanted to ease their way into a win/ratchet down the intensity. There is no way they make the same mistake again. Fiala wasn't that impressive for 55 minutes of the game and then was gloating about a 4-2 goal. The challenge for the Canucks IMO will all come down to special teams. The reffing is fair to both teams, but there is such in-game inconsistency. I imagine the players have zero idea what is/is not a penalty at this point.

Which one is it Minnesota? I get that Americans have trouble holding more than one thought in their head at the same time but yeesh. Petey seems to be able to take a Sedin-like beating and keep playing, if he can now bring a little of it in retaliation to help himself thats freaking great. Its what Benning wanted these guys to learn.

Popular Post -DLC-
Petey's a bit of a bully. I love it. I hope that him seeing Fiala snipe a few is triggering him to shoot more too. He still is looking to pass at times but he's lethal (like Fiala) when he shoots. Love that he and Brock are back together because.....it works. It gives Petey more room as the Wild had to focus on both of them. Jake did have a turnover or two....but his speed means he can recover and quickly get back into play (and he did). It's a beautiful thing to watch as he deploys his "wheels". Thing is, I feel that him sitting was a good thing because he worked his butt off in order to prove himself. I'm happy for him that he had a good game...we need him. Clearly. Having time to "watch" the first game gave him a good view of what he'd need to do...and he did. I liked Myers involvement, even if he did take penalties. A big guy, using physical play against a team that becomes undisciplined pretty quickly. The Wild clearly got frustrated and lacked a response at times. We threw them off their game more than they did us (like the first game). That first goal was critical against this team. The end of the game got nerve wracking in a "here we go again" deal. But you have to expect that a team that's behind will "go for it". We iced the puck a lot and if one of those had gone in for an EN it would've eased that pressure a bit. Just misses, but that meant it was a hold your breath deal at the end. Marky made some key saves...when he's on, he's so good. This series is not easy...Wild are a good team and there's no denying that. It's funny how good officiating makes for a close game between the two teams. Whatever happens in this series, I'm proud of our boys and the fact that they're in this. The experience they're gaining is huge and the confidence that comes with wins even greater. Can hardly wait for tomorrow! 3

And when you have that deep down desire to stay in the game, it counts for something. He loves the game of hockey. He doesn't earn his keep through pretty goals or accumulating a whole lot of points, but he's definitely an asset. His experience helps as he knows where to be and what to do. It's a bit comical (stick break at opportune moment) and I love that Loui is endearing himself to this fanbase as he is. Can't help but cheer for the guy. That was just literally a bad break. 4 1

Which I feel sitting/watching the first game helped with...focus. "Seeing" what he'd need to do. But yeah, he's so fun to watch.

Pete M
My 9 days off has aligned perfectly with the Play-in rounds...been watching a lot of games (the wife is ecstatic, over the moon). one thing that is obvious is...going high top shelf a lot of goals are scored....just like Pearson's goal. ...thought LE fit well with Horvat. ...you gotta remember, I've got a ton of "get out of jail cards", which I'm utilizing some for the Play-in rounds. So boys, you may not want to follow my lead...lol Edited August 5, 2020 by Pete M
