Hughes definitely shouldn't be missing camp since he needs to learn Shaw's system.  If he's not there at the start of camp, Benning needs to start taking calls on him.

that's absurd. you don't think he can learn a system if he misses a week? what if he was going to miss camp due to injury, trade him out then too?

On the same hand isn’t he kind of defending his own play?

I mean he played for an even worse team and his two way play was also suspect.

When your one of the worst first overall picks the last 20 years, your bound to say stupid things.   Guy bugs me.   So "happy" for Quin, going 7th overall, like a smug little prick...well what did he do exactly that was so extraordinary as a 19 year old?   Not much.   Guys a player ... but ... he could also be a bust too.   Nothing like QHs or EPs draft plus one and two despite all the hype around him.

He struggled in his own zone last year; missing this time in the video room hurts the team. Injuries are beyond his control, refusing to sign a reasonable contract and show up to camp like everyone else is not.

Well Jack certainly knows what he's talking about. That's why his defenceman brother has 45 more points than him in his career so far. Jack is just speaking from experience. Either that or he's jealous his brother has actually played in the playoffs already and it looks like Quinn will get to again while Jack is waiting for him to come back and visit him in Michigan.

Besides, unless Jack has a huge year this season, I'd be shocked if he got offered more than $4.5 million on a bridge contract next offseason.

he's going to wait for what he and his camp thinks is fair. that's reasonable. expecting players to settle for less just to make you happy is ridiculous.

Jack Yakupov.   Well maybe not but ....he's a good example of why we shouldn't buy into the hype - same with Kakko and Patrick for that matter.   Dahlin isn't the "next Lidstrom" either - so far that's Heiskanen.    Sure in five years we will have some more perspective, but these are for sure examples of why we shouldn't make too many ridiculous threads before the draft for the next "sure thing".   Also felt Jack Hughes worlds was rather ordinary.   Was expecting more - so far he's not the next "Patrick Kane" is he.   Might as well be Oliver Whalstrom.

Well we are stakeholders too... maybe small ones, but what's ridiculous is pretending he was good in his own zone too.

cool, shade from an under performing 1st oa.

that touchy Vancouver persecution complex is showing.

the Canucks were last place in a bad division last year. there is literally no other way to describe them other than as one of the worst teams in the league.

While I agree missing camp may hurt Hughes' and the teams play in the short term, everyone has a different definition of a "reasonable contract". No point speculating on if he's being unreasonable without knowing what the offers going each way are. Lots of RFAs have missed camp over the last 5 years, it's just a basic negotiation tactic at this point.

Not to mention that this season isn't going to be like last season, at least as far as the schedule is concerned,  the players are going to have lots of time for practice and to work on the new systems. As opposed to last season where they basically didn't hold a single practice, other than game day skates, for the first month of the season.

And expecting the team to not look into other options when he's trying to handicap the franchise with unreasonable demands is also ridiculous.
