[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Canucks can probably have talks with Miller on his intentions.  No contract extensions can be made until the offseason.

What if Millers says “I like it here and want to win here.”  Then discussion turns to salary and he says “I’d like to be paid my worth”

His worth is at least $8.5M but more likely $9M.  And term as well since this is most likely be his last big contract.

Last thing we need is a Jeff Skinner contract.

Have to think he and his agent look at the Zibanejad contract. Both JT and Mika are same age, Mika turns 29 this April and signed an 8yr 8.5m cap hit deal that included a full NMC. 1 difference is JT has 1 more year on his current contract where Mika was to be a pending UFA this coming summer

The identity of this team has been weak for so many years, I can’t imagine the Canucks lose this guy….we finally got that power forward we were looking for since Bert and now all these rumours of Miller being gone. This is infuriating

The good thing about Vancouver though is that it is the 3rd largest city in Canada. An American who is from an urban city would like that.

- milder weather

- less violent crime

- geographic options; mountains to ski, oceans to fish/boat, beaches to lay, etc

- wide selection of restaurants, casinos, bars/pubs, night clubs, concerts and other entertainment amenities

- border city that makes flights in and out of the US easier with more carrier options and less travel time

Other considerations like school options and nicer neighborhoods are important for future families.

You are not going to get as much in places like Deadmonton, Winterpeg, Ottawa, etc as you would in Vancity. So if it came down to it, I would guess most Americans wouldn’t mind Vancouver.

The only drawback is the cost to live here but if you make good enough money that becomes less of an issue.

Miller could very well be happy to stay here.

He very well could we don't know what JT and his family values or what their future plans are. It is the first time in his career he'll have the choice to go where he wants.

Still like the Rangers best for fit and the likely return coming back to us, but the Bruins make a TONNE of sense for extending their window and with Bergeron 36 and expiring. He'd make a solid replacement 1C for them.

Not sure I like their return for us as much though. Debrusk as the likely young cap/roster player coming back vs Chytil. IMO I doubt we get Carlo (they can't afford to lose him if they're actually going for it...unless maybe they spend elsewhere for Klingberg). But otherwise their prospect pool is a bit ho-hum beyond Lysell who's more of what we already have.

Minnesota makes a load of sense given their lack of top end C's (surprised VGK aren't on the list for the same reason). Not sure they'd be willing to give up what's required given their impending cap issues but it would have to start with Boldy and probably Fiala.

Still like the Rangers pieces better.

Calgary...oof. Not sure they could afford our ask for dealing him within our division and it's not like they have some overwhelming prospect pool . Probably one of Mangiapane or Dube as cap/roster player,... then what, left D Valimaki? And then there's... Zary/Pelletier/Mackey (another lefty)...

None of that really screams "must take", particualrly for a division rival.

I'm with you.

We finally have a durable point producing leader with some snarl and many are like...'ohh, what could we get for him? He's gonna cost more than I want to pay with AQs money. Oh and he yells sometimes, kinda scary.'

We move him, we need someone just like him back.

2 questions:

which team out of these 4 has the best 1st rd pick?

which team has the best RHD prospect that could be included?

So if it’s a “prospect” and a late round pick then we lose that trade. Prospects and picks don’t always turn out. Miller is a legit power forward in his prime with another year on a low cap hit. Rather not.

Those aren't really the arguments though.

My number 1 target in a Miller trade is Carlo. I wouldn't deal him to BOS unless Carlo is in the deal. I would do Carlo for Miller, 1 for 1. No 1st required.

Schneider + 1st would be my backup option if BOS won't include Carlo.

For me, both Debrusk and Chytil are secondary pieces that I don't even think fit on our team. I don't like them as players and we really don't need anymore LWers.

Like @aGENT said, Bruins deal Carlo and they are looking to replace him immediately, it doesn't make much sense.

I'd be thrilled with Schneider but I don't know how easily the Rangers would give him up. If we get him I would be surprised if the 2nd piece was anything more than a 2nd rounder or B prospect.

Unless the Bruins have a series of trades that involve replacing him with Klingberg, I just don't see them giving him up... And Carlo probably fits their needs better, with McAvoy already on their roster.

Of course they're secondary pieces. And we could actually use some LW depth (Chytil can also play C).

Have to give to get. Two runs of $5.25m (or less?) Miller isn't going to come cheap. He's a top 15, all positions, all situations F on a cheap hit.
