Hearing Dean Lombardi is being considered.

Would love to see a management staff that has:

POHO:  Rutherford

GM:  Lombardi

Coach:  Boudreau

THAT is a lot of experience and winning pedigree.

Uhhh, no, he isn’t.  Lots knocked Benning for bad trades and bad contracts, well check these doozies out:

-Jack Johnson 5 year, $16.25m;

-Brandon Tanev 6 years, $18m;

-Marcus Pettersson 5 years, $20m;

-Jusso Riikola 2 years, $1.15m

-Traded Hornqvist for Mike Matheson, who had 6 years, $4.875m per left;

-Traded Pearson for Gudbranson;

-Traded Sundqvist and a 1st for Reaves and a 2nd;

-Traded Gustavsson and a 1st for Brassard.

That’s just a small sampling.  He also had a tendency to trade a ton of draft picks; particularly 1st rounders.

I never said Rutherford was great.

Their 1st Cup was under Shero - Crosby was in his 4th season and Malkin in his 3rd.

Right, forgot about that one.  But yeah, it was still a 7 year gap between Cup wins, then Rutherford had them win back to back.

At least those guys are legit nhl players though and add some toughness.

I am still trying to figure out how you can slag Rutherford for those guys while crying we didn’t keep the guy who acquired Vey, Clendening, Baertschi, Vesey, Boyd, Sutter, LE, Beagle, Roussel, Hunt, etc. Which of those guys added much of anything especially vs what most of them were paid?

But why hire someone who has the same deficiencies as the last guy…yet has been doing it way longer?

Which is exactly what SC contending teams do, which he won 2 of in the last decade...

The man has 3 Stanley Cup titles as a GM, he’s in the Hockey Hall of Fame. This is a guy I definitely want in our organization

Some CDCers seem to think a great GM is perfect and never makes a single bad trade, a single bad signing, and must be able to draft 3 or 4 players that play in the NHL every year...

Potential POHO candidates don't come without baggage.  This one also came with three Stanley Cups.

So accurate, even the best GMs make errors. He made some awesome moves when he got to Pittsburgh. He gets a huge chunk of the credit for those back to back Cup wins. He acquired Kessel, Hornqvist, Bonino & Hagelin…all key contributors to their Cup teams

Huh?  That makes zero sense.  He gave away a ton of garbage contracts and made bad trades, which lots knocked Benning for.  Inheriting a team with Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Fleury helps win cups.

I think we now know why Bruce was suddenly hired. Hired before the GM was in place.

Rutherford probably wanted him and he new that the Flyers would grab him.

Rutherford is connected.

Right decision was made.  Imagine if the new GM wanted Boudreau and the Flyers had taken him.

The thing I like about this signing is that we now have a member of management that's connected. We're not an outsider looking in any more, if that makes any sense.

I am worried about the GM position though. I really don't want Botterill. Not only is his resume meh at best, but it would also mean that Rutherford just went ahead and hired one of his buddies instead of looking for the best person for the job.

Its like chess. You throw the odd stinker out there to entice further deals later. At least I hope that is what he was doing. Dumb like a fox.
