The biggest issues are the invasion of privacy plus the fact while he was 18 the girl was in fact underaged. So there's a number of disgusting situations that were addressed in criminal court over his actions. I do not condone, accept or respect them but I also know how stupid 18 year olds are and how many mistakes I made before growing up. Mistakes in this day and age which would have me ostracized from society. This kid is a point producing RHD, we don't and many NHL teams don't have that. Defensive lapses can be taught, but that level of pure skill can't. I also have a feeling that he'd be a very cheap pick up. It was actually the other way around, at the time of the 'oral treat' (love that phrasing) Logan was 17 and the girl was 18. My mistake, I was under the impression he was the older person in the incident and she was underaged. Still does not make it right at all and I still find it reprehensible but it does not make him a person who shouldn't be looked at as a potential item of value for a team in need of RHD

Why would we trade it unless for an unprotected 1st. I know we need a RHD, but BPA also applies in trades. I have a funny feeling Laffy won't be the 1st OA he was projected to be. maybe a 50-65 point winger, as such I'd dangle him for a guarantee now instead of hoping for the best later. The Habs need something to rally behind after the Bergevin/Mailloux issues, Price gone, Weber gone worst season in decades and an evident rebuild, like LONG rebuild ahead of them. Laffy is a french canadian player, stud winger 2 years removed from being a 1st OA. He's not trending in the right direction at all but is still young enough to be devloped in to something better. Id say with our timeline, should events conspire to us getting Laffy from the rags and a pick, dangling him to the habs for Maiiloux and their 1st in 2023, top 3 lottery protected or unrestricted in 2024 is a huge win for us. Point producing RHD in maillloux even with his issues, or a quality trade item, a 1st which will almost be a guaranteed top 10 next year or even better the following. By the time u get to the third pick I dont believe its realistic to project a prospect higher than Lafreniere. He is still a magnificently gifted athlete, and talent. Regardless of whether he matches NHL game speed in his head or not. There will, no doubt, be outliers that outperform top 2 picks from time to time. But I would not bet on it. Yes he was a nice piece in the Jones trade but they got a haul and if they don’t like his concussion or better yet overall injury history they could sell him off. He’s a 21 year old, former 8th OA, right shot D who’s already contributing at an NHL level. Sure. They MIGHT be willing to move him. But it won’t be at a discount If they do. Are you prepared to move an asset like Podkolzin or more to get him? Edited January 27, 2022 by qwijibo

If we can rehab this kid AND get a lottery protected high pick it an unrestricted pick the following year from a team that will be picking highly for a few seasons.... I don’t see it… this club has had a bad history of sex offenders and just hired a woman AGM… he should really be dealt to Zona as part of a Chyckrun deal to,the Habs.. He;s still a very solid prospect in his position and while I also would hesitate if we could obtain a quality return of an RHD prospect AND Laff with a pick, then dangle Laff to the Habs and get their 1st and yet another D prospect we do that and smile. Just because we'd obtain him doesn't mean we would have keep him either. But optics and issues aside this kid is still a very gifted RHD prospect, the type of which nets returns in this league. He could then be a part of yet another trade or we could slap him in to respectability and see if he works out. To be honest, imaginary trades aside. I feel as though Mailloux would be a piece the Habs might release very easily for a loss just to get it out from under their umbrella. Edit*. Keeping in mind this kid willingly pulled himself from the draft and asked teams NOT to draft him at all based on his conduct. The Habs stunned everyone by doing what no other team wanted to. Willingly taking yourself out of the draft and asking teams to not select you based on your conduct after even pleading guilty shows that this kid knows he messed up and was willing to accept everything he got from it. There's hope for him Montreal is actually in a decent position to hang on to Mailloux at this point. The old management team took the heat for the pick and all the big names involved with making the pick have been purged from the organization. The new management team can simply sit back and develop him now because they had nothing to do with picking him. A team trading for him would probably face more criticism now than Montreal will for just keeping him and making the best of a bad situation. He’s already showing signs of being a very good prospect. The boy was 17 years old, and made a very terrible mistake. My hope is he has worked on his respect , and decision making issues. As for our new AGM, she is a professional, and " IF " she was onboard with the talent, she would consider it. I would especially think she would be able to see the other side of this issue, being she was a player agent at one time, and knowing how young these kids are. But, in saying all this, it should be a team decision with all aspects being considered. Including how it effects the office staff and ticket holders. But, again, not to bring up old news, but the kids only error in life was to post pornography that he created........... So, new flash, immature kids, do immature things......maybe it was poor parenting, or he got caught up in a moment of a bad decision. I am not excusing it, but young men, drink and drive, throw rocks that take eyes out, bully, etc......and still turn out to be outstanding people when grown up. A kid threw a baseball and hit my son in the back of the head at 14 years old, I later worked with that guy, and he was horrified by what he had done.... He had kids, and it just scared the hell out of him, someone could do that to one of his kids............."He grew up! " and is now quite impressive as an adult. IMO, the kid should not be asked to penalized for the rest of his life, and if he is understanding how bad it was, and repents, then he should get a chance to live a normal life, including hockey.
