Need much more of this, this season

I’d like to think if we could find a way to bring Zadorov here,.   Our heavy sides becomes Myers, Schenn Burroughs Zadorov.

that’s not too shabby,.  See what unfolds before camp.

Him and gudbranson looked better last year but I don’t think I trust either of them and Nikita left handed :(

Why does everyone want to get rid of Myers so badly? We have no depth at RD. At 6M he is a bit overpaid, but not by much. He is one of the few players on the Canucks that can play a heavy game. Canucks need cap space, but can't at the expense of further depleting the shallowest part of the team.

Want cap space? Get rid of a few middle 6 forwards first.

Rather have Lyubushkin. Still physical but far better at actually playing defense.

Because he's an ill fit with anyone in our top 4, on the left side. And at $6m (not in fact overpaid for what he is as an individual player), he's too expensive to play 3rd pair and represents a cap road block from improving that top 4, right side.

By all means if we were to swap OEL to the right and bring Edler back or manage to snag Hague etc to pair with Myers, we'd maybe have something. But as it stands right now, we need less of a two way D (Myers), and more defensive D (Marino, Schneider, Lyubushkin, Manson types) on that right side to work with Hughes and OEL.

Another thing to factor in…

we need to replace him with a D that can sustainably log big minutes. People often don’t take into consideration how durable Myers has been in that way.

Yup, we need a RHD coming back in a Miller or Garland trade, and we likely need to sign a guy like Lyubushkin.

Because at 6 million dollars just playing okay in a top 4 role isn’t enough when we have other holes to fill.

The way I see it is you should be able to find a top 4 that can bring what he brings for around 4 million. A player like Adam Larsson for example isn’t flashy but plays a solid defensive game and can bring some physicality.

If we can replace Myers with a player like that, that frees up another 2 million to either sign a bottom pair upgrade or a third line center which are both big needs.

Its all about maximizing how you spend your cap, and Myers at 6 mil just isn’t doing that.

Myers is awesome.
We have a team of cream puffs, led by a 220lbs kitten.
Without Myers, we would get beaten up by Bantam teams.
He is the only guy who plays with any real aggression other than Schenn sometimes.

But you can find physical tough players for less than 6 mil.

Being afraid of being too soft should not be the motivating factor for keeping him. There are other D men available that play a heavy game.

If you can get a physical RD who can play a solid all around game like Myers did for under 6 mill, I’d be down, but they are pretty rare, and not available.

We don't need an "all around" D like Myers though. In fact, him being "all around" is a determinant as OEL ends up covering for him instead of being the (much higher level) "all around" D HE could be.

We need some good, solid, defensive D. Guys like Marino, Tanev, Lyubushkin, Manson, Cernak etc.

Those guys are generally between $2.5m (low end) to $5m (high end).

This isn't about Myers =bad. He isn't. He's just an ill fit here. Cheaper, younger, better defensively and more cohesive. That's what we should be aiming for.
