(Proposal) Van-Tor, Van-NJ, Van-Was, Van-Ari, Van-CBJ

Recommended Posts

To Toronto:
Tyler Myers (1m retained by Vancouver)
Jaro Halak

To Van:
2022 2nd
2023 2nd

Toronto does this because they need a top-4 defenseman with Muzzin out (and frankly needed one even with him healthy) and Mrazek just isnt cutting it for them as backup. Campbell has been struggling recently too, and given Halak's profile as a streaky goaltender, if he gets more starts, its reasonable to expect he'd return to form. At the very least, the leafs get to try something instead of Mrazek who just hasnt worked for them. Halak has had 2 bad games with us, but his numbers going into the last 2 games were actually really good.

We get a couple of draft picks to restock, and free up a good chunk of salary next year (5m).

To NJD:
Boeser
Poolman

To Van:
Zacha
Severson

NJ does this to add to their core- Boeser is the perfect age, and could have Nico Hischier or Jack Hughes setting him up.

Severson has been one of the best penalty killing defenseman in the league this year, and would generally be a big upgrade on Myers. Boeser is still worth more, so they'd have to take Poolman (overvalued by about 1.5m/year) and we'd get Zacha.

To Washington:
Pearson

To Van:
2022 2nd

Caps need a middle 6 forward for their playoff run, Vancouver restocks a draft pick and dumps some salary

To Arizona:
Jason Dickinson
2022 3rd

To Van:
Future considerations

Arizona gets some salary to keep them above the league minimum and adds a draft pick, business as usual for them. Vancouver dumps salary.

To CBJ:

Jack Rathbone

To Van:
Andrew Peeke

CBJ gets a left hand defensive prospect ready to make the NHL with enormous offensive upside, and trade away a right side penalty killing young shutdown defenseman. Fine for them, because their right side is stacked, we have the opposite problem.

11m cap space generated for us so far, 2 2nd rounders accumulated, a better blue line, and a quality forward prospect added from Toronto.

UFA signingx:
Max Domi-
5m x 4

Hampus Lindholm-
5m x 5
(may have to trade a pick to Anaheim to acquire his rights)

Sign Andrei Kuzmenko-
1 year league min

New lineup:

Miller-EP-Podz
Domi-Horvat-Garland
Hogs-Zacha-Kuzmenko
Motte-Lammikko-Highmore

Hughes-Peeke
OEL-Severson
Lindholm-Hamonic
*Schenn, Burroughs

Should end up with enough cap space to give Miller his raise.

Tldr: totally rebuilt blue line with better defenders, plenty of depth at center (both Miller and Domi can step in and play center if needed). Horvat gets more speed on his wing. Zacha and Domi are both far faster skaters than Dickinson and Pearson were.

I like these trades. I think it’s fair value for all of them.

Having Damon Severson in the back end would absolutely bolster our defense.

Might need more convincing with the Tyler Myers trade. And I’d imagine Lindholm would want a more sizeable contract so that would be a big if.

Rather keep Myers, Severson is not an upgrade on Myers.

Pearson is good value and better than Zacha.

Dickinson and Poolman I'm willing to wait and see on Morrosey has been exposed without Poolman and Dickinson was very good on Dallas if its only about clearing cap you move Boeser for picks instead of paying picks to unload Poolman Dickinson.

Rathbone is coming along nicely I'd like to see what he can do before giving up on him.

Brock and Halak are the only guys who need to be moved.

I don't know why people keep proposing to trade someone (Halak), with a FULL NMC.

You can't even waive him and send him to Abbotsford unless he agrees, which he won't

I'm thinking

to CBJ - Myers

to VAN - Domi and Boqvist

CBJ could use a RD (Myers) for their playoff push. VAN could use Boqvist for their future. Domi is a UFA after this season and is tied for 7th in team scoring. Not like they'd be lost without him IMO. Maybe he re-signs in VAN?  Whatever happens, Canucks need to clear cap and add young players.

Boqvist was their main draw from the Seth Jones trade and he is better than Myers.

For Halak, when does his contract expire?

If his contract expires end of this season, just let him sit and we bring up Spencer.

I know we will have less one forwarder.

Halak is only signed for this season.

Schenn & Spencer Martin for the Laffs 1st?! Might be tweaks, but could see this being a basis. They're cap-hooped, thus might bite on cheap-O hits.

A bottom pairing D and a pending UFA minor league goalie is worth a 1st?

toronto wants rentals only.. why would they be trading for people they can't afford and a goalie that's struggling even worse than campbell?

Toronto said they are willing to take someone on with term if it fills a need
And their blue line is deficient, with or without Muzzin

Or they can just go for giordano without destroying the team's cap for next season and have a mediocre defense for years to come while moving into the top 5 in the league for highest paid defense
