[PROPOSAL] JT Miller to New Jersey Devils

Recommended Posts

Not enough. The expectation is Miller would get more than what Fiala got which was a top RD prospect and a mid 1st round pick. Severson who’s atrocious defensively and a couple of question mark prospects isn’t that.

Why New Jersey does this?

They have a glut of RHD now and cannot play all of them in their top 4.  Hamilton and Marino are signed long term and will be their two top 4 RHD, plus they have Simon Nemec in the wings.  Severson, like Miller, is a UFA next summer so he looks like the odd man out.  Dermott gives them a good option for their 3rd pairing and can play either side.

Why Vancouver does this?

Severson will immediately step into the lineup on the top pairing with Quinn Hughes.  He is a bonafide top 4 Dman, can play 25 minutes a night, can play the 2nd unit PP and is one of the better PK'ers in the league.  He can also put up 45-50 points from the backend, which is another area of need for us.  He is not the perfect partner for Hughes but he will immediately become our best RHD by a mile.  Mcleod is as fast as they come.  He will be our new 3C.  Him and Mikheyev will form an unstoppable PK pairing that will bring our PK to the top of the league.  As well, he is one of the best faceoff men in the entire NHL, so he will allow Horvat to focus on scoring and being a 2C.  Mcleod hasn't developed his offensive game yet in the NHL and may never live up to his draft ranking.  However, he will add much needed speed and will be our #1 faceoff man as well as be able to make our penalty kill one of the best in the league.  Kevin Bahl is a beast and is a local boy.  He and Rathbone can battle it out for the 3rd pairing LHD role.  We can switch them up depending on the competition.  Bahl hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential in the NHL.  At 6'6" and 230+ pounds he can really help us to get much bigger and meaner on the back end.

There you have it.  This trade takes care of several needs.  A top pairing RHD for Hughes, a 3C who is as fast as they come and is one of the best faceoff men in the NHL, and a 6'6" beast of a Dman who has untapped potential and is also a local boy who would love to come back home.

Flame away...  :)

Wait a minute!

Are you telling me there's a chance that the Canucks may trade away JT Miller?

Who's expectation is that?  CDC?

I like this trade. Very fair value for both teams. If they can throw in a 2nd or 3rd rounder, that would be great but this is the type of trade I can see happen.

Not sure about McLeod.  Has he accepted to be an NHL player he’s going to need to play the grinder, checker, pain in the ass, hard to play against role?  If he has, then this a great trade.

Get ‘er done JR! :frantic:

i was thinking more like garland for marino or severson and mukhamadullin. i don't know how far away muk is to playing in the nhl, but i'm a big fan of his game. i'ld love mcleod but i think we expect more than what we'll probably get.

i think miller ends up on long island.

I agree Joe.  Miller is exactly the type of player Lou Lam loves.  Hopefully we can get the Devils and the Islanders both interested enough to compete for Miller.  Two buyers would be fantastic.

He's gonna end up on a long island in the middle of the Arctic Sea if he doesn't sign a team-friendly deal.

  #Sign zee papers old man.

Starting to wonder if Burkie didn't have something with his cap space comment.

Miller's cap space now is so low it's a big part of his value.

Miller's cap space (and term!) on his next contract will detract from his value.

Does it make sense to look forward to not paying his new contract, even if he walks?

e.g. Miller plays this season at his 5.something cap hit; we get good use out of him for that 5 mil; and he can decide to re-up with us or anybody else; we only offer what we want to pay and for how long.

vs  Trade Miller, lose his modest cap hit, lose his possible future cap hit and term, don't get the use of him this year; but get some futures.

I hope he wants to sign say a 'team-fair' deal, a little shorter than max, and a little less AAV, and stay and help us try to Win The Stanley Cup.

He reminds me a lot of a young Sean Couturier. Plays an edgy game, and has quickly accepted his role as a checking centre, a far cry from his junior hockey days as a playmaker.

Hes also a pretty decent fighter, and fights quite a bit lol

If they're willing to part with him, I am certainly interested in this speedster who may also be capable in the very heavy going of the playoffs.

Yes he has and is above average at faceoffs.  But...he has been playing 4th line for Jersey.  At 24yrs, he may improve

his offensive game.  I'm not sure about his foot speed or toi for the jump to 3rdC

If Devils need LHD... Wouldn't Rathbone + another LHD not named OEL or Hughes + Miller for Marino/Seversen and Bahl/Bratt + a 3C make a lot of sense?

I love it....

couldn't get much closer to my idea, although I'm slightly less stingy ::D

I makes lots of sense...

could perhaps make further adjustments later, but absolutely no rush to do so right away.

Would feel a lot more confident going into next season like that....and I'm on the fence with Miller, but it just makes too much sense.
