Alflives
And 2.5 in bonuses, so 5 mil. Bruins will finish ahead of the LOSER LEAFS this year.

mll
As expected the target is easily attainable. It's to allow Boston to defer 2.5M to next season when they should have a bit more cap space. 2

Seriously, shouldn’t the league insist on the bonus requirements be at least reasonable? 10 games for last season’s Selke winner is clearly going to be attained in the first month. Where is Betman and his “spirit” of the contract comment when this clear cheating is done? 1 1

Odd.
Could’ve easily demanded more but took a team oriented contract due to their current cap situation. Will go down as a Boston great. Only player I like and respect from that gutless organization.
Caboose
Obviously circumstances are different for this player, but this has to be among the best value contracts in NHL history? This guy is playing at the best level of his career right now.

He was never going anywhere else, he's like a Sedin for the Bruins, he'll go down as a career guy and one of their greatest. He's at the very least their greatest forward, ahead of Esposito and Neely. Now, he never hit Esposito's top end numbers and I'm not arguing he was more talented offensively than Esposito, but when you consider their longevity as Bruins there's no contest. Third all time in games played for an original six club, fourth in goals (two behind 3rd), fourth in assists with a good chance at passing Orr next season if he stays healthy, fourth in points as well and he'll almost certainly pass Esposito next season. He's the only Bruin I respect and you'd have to be outta your mind to think he'd play for another NHL team.

If that is not cap circumvention then I don't know what is. The NHL is a joke. Vancouver gets penalized in the millions for a totally legit and legal Luongo contract at the time it was signed but Bettman allows this crap to happen. Complete farce of a league really... 1

I’m sure the possibility still exist that he could waive that clause to be traded at the TDL , to further help his team collect assets . I appreciate what your saying,. But I think I was trying to state how he can still be used to help the Bruins if they miss the playoffs. love PB.

It's not cap circumvention because one way or another it still counts against the cap, it's just deferred and perfectly legal. It just affords teams the option to defer a poison pill if they think they've better odds of winning one year as opposed to the next. We did it with Halak because we didn't have the cap space to pay him market value up front. But if we'd done it to go all in and went deep several folks here would probably call it a smart move. Ballisticsports.
Having a Patrice Bergeron contract at 37 for a cap hit of 2.5 is better than Miller or Huberdeau at 38 at $8-10+ at that age You see aging superstars who still produce signing for far less than 5 Boston got good value for themselves and what i think the current management is "trying" to do with their hands tied and teams knowing it
