Looks like the same team that started last season and why wouldn't it it’s basically the same group that’s failed year after year.
we needed changes  we got status quo.

the preseason was an indicator of what was to come poor effort careless plays and complacency.
what a surprise it’s carried over.

Our special teams right now

And awful at the start of last year too.  With the guys we have we should be right up there with the PP.  The puck movement is so predictable though.  I remember with the Sedins there was cycling, pucks behind the net, things that had the D turned around.  This current team is just trying one timer over and over again but with the whole opposition facing towards them.  Crikey.

We're not freaking tanking.

You're right, we're not. We re-upped an aging player who has actively been a large part of the reason we lost the first 2 games. Tanking means you sell off assets for the long term gains of the team. We just plain and simple suck right now with little to no help coming.

Oh yea, we have the Maple Leafs to cheer us up.

Going for a bike ride, keep calm and carry on stuff for me. It's the only way I can do it these days. File it away and find something positive in the day.

Peace out, folks.

Wake up people! Maybe, just maybe, it’s not the coaches like everyone seems to convince themselves every year before another season of mediocrity goes by.

JR wasn’t able to make the changes he needed or wanted to in the off-season so sadly (IMO) signed a soon to be 30 year old ti a 56 million dollar deal and might have to do the same soon wth the captain rather than creating cap space and prospect depth.

Its the same story every year. Has been except for a couple of Cup runs over 50 years that tide us over and give people the illusion of potentially consistent good times.

But the team is really who we thought they were. A fringe playoff team at best that’s over the cap but for the magic of LTIR.

I’m sad really not at this start but more at seeing my deepest fears about this team being confirmed.

Didn't watch the game.  Anything  positive and were the rebuilding Flyers, the better team ?

Define better? Philly got a short handed goal on us. We're 1/13 on the PP.

Did we pass the puck around more and have more puck possession - yes, but too much of that and not enough shots on net for rebounds.

0-2 and a SHYTE PP....and given up 2 shorthanded goal already....as well blown two leads....but I guess still too early to hit the PANIC button ..eh....heading to the caps and they are 0-2...someone will end their winless streak...

I just happen to know a team who's specialized in that business.

My opinion.

As much as Mikehyev wants to play with Petey and Kuzmenko I think he needs to play with Miller.

Pearson-Miller-Mikehyev

Kuzmenko-Petey-Boeser

Garland-Horvat-Podkolzin

Joshua-Aman-Lazar

Hughes-Schenn

OEL-Burroughs

Stillman-Myers

Demko

Martin

we lost that game because:

- Horvat was invisible

- we lost key defensive zone face offs

- our Powerplay wasn’t good and a short handed goal two games in a row is unacceptable

- Kuzmenko didn’t elevate the puck

- Petey one time miss the mark too often

- Hughes looks off to me like he had a late night or a flu

- boeser is looking super slow

- we played down a dman most of the game

- reffing sucked for a momentum changing period

 takeaways:

1. our PK has been okay and it’s been missing Mikehyev and Myers reach so it will only get better. This is a positive.

2. JT has to outscore is defensive gaffs. Game  1 he did game 2 he didn’t. Needs to be better as a team leader and with the contract he has.

3. if Horvat wants a big extension.. he needs to be better. He’s not doing himself any favors here.

4. slow starters: Hughes due to the flu he had looks impacted to start the year to me. And Boeser with the injury he’s a. Step behind like the start to last year. Hopefully they get up to speed quick here. Need better from them.

5. OEL looks necessary on the top PP unit right now as short handed goals like we are surrendering are unacceptable.

6. Burroughs - can he be that player who steps up unexpectedly and play above what we expected? I’m feeling optimistic I like what I’m seeing from him.

7. kuzmenko is doing better than I expected to start the year and expect him to keep learning and getting better. Really like him so far.

8.Hoglander is a Tasmanian devil on the ice action follows him. Turnovers / steals, scoring chances, penalties drawn and taken. Interesting player.

9. Demko is demko can’t blame him for the loss he gives us a chance every game.

10. Bruce might be worried right now as the results aren’t there and the arrogant / west van / country club attitude of our team is looking stronger than ever.

id like to see a strong effort and response next game from the squad

My summary is a little simpler but I can't disagree with your points above.  However:

- team stopped skating

- team showed no heart, no hunger

- passing sucks because of my first point (passing options are poor)

- PP is missing a coach

- They need 2 solid PP groups.....at least have a proper center for PP2

Burroughs is earning himself a job for sure.

While I like Kuzmenko, I'm not seeing much in the way of speed with him neither.  Hope that changes.

These guys needs a few days of bag skates with parachutes on.  It's starting to look like a country club team already.
