Overview

 

No man is an island wrote John Donne in 1623, but so far this season Bruce Boudreau sure seems like one. Cast adrift by Canucks' President Rutherford for lack of processes and cursed by his player's inability to hold onto multi-goal leads, Bruce seems quiet and reserved on the bench. His bewildering line-up decisions like elevating a struggling Tanner Pearson to the top line and playing Stillman and Rathbone over the rugged and energetic Burroughs have ultimately failed and have done little to change the course of the Canucks. The penalty kills seems destined to give up goals even when good early kills are outdone by later dumb penalties.

 

As the Canucks 5-game road trip closes in Buffalo they remain anchored to the also-rans of the West. The goal for the trip was to play .500 hockey but even a win tonight will not get the Canucks to break even. While the players deserve the bulk of the blame Bruce need not look for whom the bell tolls for more than likely it tolls for thee.

 

The Sabres have had a mixed season so far. They started the season strongly, winning 7 out of 10 games and hoping to break their NHL record 11-year playoff drought. The Sabres have struggled since though losing its last 5 games however only the Arizona loss was to to a team outside of current playoff standings. Buffalo will however appreciate the Canucks visiting having dominated their first meeting, 5-1 keeping the Canucks to one solitary Garland goal despite the Canucks having 4 powerplay opportunities to 1.

 

For the Canucks there is little to be said. Bo Horvat's goal scoring and Bourdeau labelled pointless point streaks aside, the team has not progressed as the season has gone on and it seems like this may be the last time Bruce may be where it is in Vancouver.

I think it is time for the team to stop worrying about the results, and start just playing the game.  They have to skate, hustle, hit, and push forward.  This team is a good marker to see where they are at, truly.  I don't think the playoffs is even in sight, but they can go about establishing an identity, and start playing with some structure.  As long as it looks like the team is honestly trying, and trying to play a full 60, not 20 or 30 minutes a game, we will be happier than not.  I didn't think we'd tank hard for Bedard, but here we are, so now it is about making those wins as hard as possible for the opposing team to get.

Nucks playing in Buffalo on my birthday used to be a staple for me. Every year I would go. Then for whatever reason they moved these Buffalo games to October in recent years. Love to see it back on my birthday. Hate that I can't make it. 

 

It is what it is though. Mothers health is more important than a hockey game.

I was directly saying its my birthday. At no point was I sugar coating it. I used to love these games. Then they moved them. Also we have never argued before, have we? 

 

Also.. she won't but thanks. Just hoping for stability and that she doesn't get worse.

Sabres starting the season strong and then going on a 5 game losing streak just shows how quickly these standings can change. That being said, even a 5 game winning streak for the Canucks doesn't really get us that high in the standings - shows how bad we've been.

 

Bet the Canucks win this and lose the next 4.

The ever rebuilding Sabres are still sucking vs the ever retooling Canucks, which are also sucking.  Anyways, hoping for a Canuck victory, against our expansion cousin
