Bo is playing on a line with Barzal.  Will probably end up being a 70-80pt player.

Barzal hasn't eclipsed 63 points in 5 years..

Bo was playing with way better players here, on a more offensively open system. He's also scored 1/3 of his points this year on the PP, and he's gone to a team with the worst PP in the league at 15%.

It's entirely possible he goes back to being a 60 point player.

Miller took just under 370 faceoffs in Tampa prior to being traded here. Paquette, Cirelli, Point, and Stamkos all took over 800+ draws. Stamkos and Cirelli were his centermen. Green and management were deadset on using Pettersson as a centermen. I remember a game against Calgary, where Pettersson won 1 out of 7 draws. After the game Green was asked if he ever considered moving Pettersson to the wing and his answer was “no.”.

Just because, Miller took more draws than Pettersson doesn’t necessarily mean he “played” center during that shift. There were times Green would just use him to take faceoffs, and he’ll shift back to the wing.

Um.....

Actually it was towards the end of Pettersson's 2nd season when he asked to play C and they started having Miller take faceoffs and switch roles. Most of his rookie season Petey played RW. Still doesn't explain why a 3rd line sometimes C would get top spot with our top young guys rather than captain Bo. One would think Miller coming from more of a checking role would be the obvious choice that season to play 2C with Pearson and whoever in a checking role. You need to come up with a more logical reason for the move.

Barzal on pace for 68pts.  So I’m thinking he would improve with having Horvat on his line.

Anything is possible.  We will just have to wait and see.

We'll see how it looks next year, when he's back to being a 55-65 point player making 8.5

That is quite unlikely as long as he stays healthy.  His production was actually suppressed on the Canucks by being used in a lot of defensive and match up situations, and with a dodgy rotation of random AHL calibre wingers.

He is now on the top line of a team and expected to be a goal scorer and not a Selke candidate (which for some reason he was always treated as in Vancouver.

He is much more likely to be hovering around a PPG on a line with Barzal, and he will get all the same PP minutes he was getting here.

Islanders roll 4 lines and don’t play forwards over 20 so he should be more fresh over the long run which should help him as he’s utilized more offensively.

Barzal and Horvat seem like a pretty good match for each other in terms of play styles. Barzal was definitely missing a line mate like Horvat.

The Islanders were 0-6 before they went 4-0.  BO played 15 minutes tonight and had one goal.  He wasn't the difference maker in the game.

They do have an easy 3 games coming up, so it's possible they can go 7-0.  But it wouldn't be because they have BO, it would be because they are playing Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa.

However, even if they go 7-0, Pittsburgh still has 4 games in hand and so does Buffalo.  Washington is no slouch either.  Also, the Islanders already dumped their load with BO.  They won't be making any more moves unless they want to trade their 2024 1st round pick.  Meanwhile, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Washington are still looking to do deadline deals to push them into the playoffs.

The Isles can't trade their 2024 1st as It's already tied up in the Horvat deal. They can't trade that pick until the 2023 draft order is set and know the 2024 1st doesn't belong to the Canucks.

I agree… that is how the Canucks have tried to use him since he was drafted though.  In reality, he was more purely offensively gifted and Petterson was the better 2 way centre.

I think the Islanders are going to use him well.

Just give them Miller for the other first and then they don’t have to decide.

Please tell me which of these guys played center in Pettersson’s first year as his linemates; Boeser, Bärtschi, Goldobin, Leivo?

Why Miller got to play on the top line over Horvat? It’s the same reason why Beauvillier is currently playing on he top line over Boeser. It’s a coach preference. Coaches tend to play with the new shiny toy, in order for him to succeed.
