I wonder if Quick will retire after this season, the only thing quick about him is how fast he gets pulled after letting in 3 + goals in the first period these days.

May as well. All this sentimental stuff is ridiculous. Who cares if he is mad about being traded. He makes a lot of money and is underperforming. This is a business where people are making millions of dollars and there is that expectations that they play to that level.

When your Captain of your hockey club is shaken by the trade of your long-time team-mate and goaltender, who is on his final year that's not a good sign. It might have been a good hockey trade. But that's going to cause morale problems on your team. It would have been different at the start of the season, and Quick was traded to a competitor. That's like dragging out the Bruce situation. The optics are really bad.

I never said the optics looked good. These other players full well know it's a business and they make huge money to perform and he hasn't. He has been pitiful this year. I'm sure they would prefer a chance at winning.

cut & paste (next 2 tweets):

That says a lot about how good this team is, otherwise. Kings allow the fewest inner slot shots of any team and rank 3rd in expected goals against (reflection of team defence). With average goaltending, they would be first in the Pacific. So, they acquire Joonas Korpisalo.

Here’s where he ranks this season amongst goalies with 20 or more games played…

Save %: 16th

Slot Save %: 5th

Rebound Save %: 2nd

Cycle Save %: 7th

Rush Save %: 3rd

Goals Saved Above Expected / 60: 9th

PIT waiting for McGinn and Friedman to clear waivers, and then...

to PIT - Miller (25% retained by VAN for this season)

to ARI - Blueger, Ty Smith and 1st from PIT (2023)

to VAN - Chychrun

Wishful thinking

Yep.

The Kings were playing great. They really didn’t need a move like this.

Most stats - regular and advanced - indicated that the Kings were getting the worst goaltending in the league. Quick is no longer NHL-calibre, not even as a backup. He wasn’t going to be retained, this just expedited it a little.

Was confirmed by CapFriendly that the league had already ruled that retention applies to both the current contract and the extension.

That doesn't seem sufficient for Chychrun.  So many teams have tried to bring in Chychrun but the price is apparently still sky high.  Edmonton gave up more than that for Ekholm - they would have probably gone for the cheaper/younger Chychrun if the price hadn't been considerably higher.

  • -Vintage Canuck- changed the title to [Trade] Kings trade Jonathan Quick, conditional 2023 1st-round pick, 2024 3rd-round pick to Blue Jackets for Vladislav Gavrikov, Jonas Korpisalo

Full trade:

So much for their 1st, 3rd and 4th ask for gavrikov. Ended up taking a cap dump (I'd call that the 3rd) and giving up a very good goalie rental. Puts gavrikovs value in this trade to approximately a 2nd (with kopisalo bumping it to a 1st)

I wonder if this messes with Kings chemistry.  This core has been together a long time.

We could see the impact of Tanev leaving the Canucks went way beyond his play on the ice... the rest of the team seemed really down about it and the locker room started to have problems.

There is no retaining for ONLY this season its all or nothing. That 25% would cost us 2 million in cap for 7 years.
