The only move we can make is buying out OEL.  OEL's replacement from 2nd half in the time OEL was out were a lot better.  Don't want to risk keeping OEL for another lost season.  No need to do crazy things like sweeteners to get us out of cap troubles.   We stay put, buy out OEL, find some free agent to replace OEL for one year deal or promote from within until our cap situation improves next season then we can explore our options.  We do not want to go into 2024 off-season with similar cap troubles because we did something this off-season. Assess our situation next season that would include EP40 salary and roster game plan for 2024-25 season.  If our roster improves from within and that is a big win.

So definitely not Oliver Ekman-Larsson then.

The bitchy thing here is that his contract is hard to do anything about so there it’s only prays and hoping(coping?) that may help.

Beau does not need to be bought out. He is a legit top 6 forward and brought good energy to this team. I’m so against this.

Rather not make any further changes and go with what we already have. There were a lot of moves all throughout last year. Let’s just sit with the roster and hope RT has them still going from the start.

Not a huge fan of it either, but if it helps us get the type of 3C we need, it wouldn't be a tough pill to swallow.    It might even need to happen just to make cap and LTIR to start the season depending on what else they can manage.

What would be even better, is OEL's injury was the thing holding him back,  he recovers 110%, and comes back as good or better then he was the first year for us.    Then we wouldn't need a replacement.    He was actually ok his first season.   Last season...ugh.    Even knocking a year off an eventual buyout is good.   Luongo's cap penalty all over again, this one 8 years long?  No thanks.

Because we don’t need to pay for a top 4 D man if you got one on ELC.
Very simple as that.

The sad part is that PA probably think more like you here than me.

It's very rare you get a top four D on an ELC.   Most top four D's become one over a period of several years.   Usually get there on there second deals.    So far, name all the top four D's we've drafted, that became one during their first contract?  The list is very very small.    Ohlund was drafted in 1994.    Since the cap ... Edler and QH's?

we may even find him a complimenting player (Hronek), to let him utilise his tools,,, He wasn't all bad 2 seasons ago.

Next season Myers is gone, we are more likely to find a player that compliments him, should we wish to play Hronek with QH...

My hope is for the young Petey that will kill everyone coming near Petey.

He will act more defensively and maybe compare him to Edler.

Edler was a beaut, under appreicaited IMO. Similar in many ways to Ohlund, just go out and do your job game in game out

To me think we need to try and move ve Miller asap.Get some cap space and pick for the draft plus a good young player that might make the team.

Myers again try if not at tdl he will be moved or sooner.

BB not sure what to do unless a sweetener and retention is involved.

Beau might be interesting as he fits in but on final year.If we could resign him two year to three at the same amount I would try.

OEL you either keep for a year or two then buy out or send to the minors next year.He would be mad and might try to get his contract terminated.Ir rude it out.

Well if he sucks still, doesn't have a good summer, and doesn't make the team, but still costs it, then if he gets angry? Good!

Gotta make sure to have some dead cap and poison pill for the next regime!

In this thread’s poll, which has been voted on by nearly 100 members/fans here, over 90% were in favour of waiting it out. Nearly agreement from both sides that are for/against the direction of the team from members here.

It should be interesting to see how fan reaction on a broader scale will pan out.

Petey jr will probably play similar as he seems to be hard to play against.

But what I like is that his favourite player is Petey. That means he will get revenge on every player taking cheap shots on Petey.

You probably saw how Edler did. He saw someone take a cheap shot and later in the game he nailed him.

This Petey will do the same.

Ohlund had this mean streak which would appear if somebody tried to p*ss him off.  Ask Mikko Koivu when that player tried throwing an elbow in the direction of Ohlund's bad eye.  Edler went into "Ohlund Hulk mode" that one playoff series against the Kings.

If Edler played like that, even only half of the rest of his career, he'd have been a Norris winner, more than once.

Simply the best I've seen, as a Canuck, for far too short a time.

That bad back really robbed him of an ELITE career.

Still a damn fine d man... alas what could have been.

I still shake my head how that guy went from playing in essentially a beer league in Sweden to the NHL in such a short time.  Absolutely insane development.  I don't care how Gradin found out about him...that was a real find by our REAL Swedish amateur scout.

As it turns out, they are willing to make sacrifices for the short term gain.

It's what happens when every GM under Aqua is told to make playoffs at all cost or be fired in 2 years.

With that incentive, any GM will make a move that hurts in 5 years but helps today.
