Guys don’t be surprised if he gets 4m at 5 or 6 years from someone

he’s one of the most sought after free agents on D so the bidding war is gonna be crazy

At that price, I rather go with Ian Cole at 2 years.

Another player that is likely headed to the free agency market is defenseman Carson Soucy. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff is reporting that the Seattle Kraken and the hulking defenseman had discussions about an extension, but it appears that at this point he is going to unrestricted free agency and will be in a new uniform next season.

This past season Soucy finished last in Kraken defensemen for points and ice time, however, he will still be a significant loss on the backend for Seattle. Together with offensive defenseman Justin Schultz, they formed one of the top third-defensive pairings in the NHL last season, which is what will ultimately price Soucy out of Seattle.

Soucy had three goals and 13 assists in 78 games last season and while he will never an offensive defenseman, he may be paid like one given that he’ll be entering a very weak free-agent market for defensemen. Soucy can bring a lot to a new team, he can play on both sides of the ice, has a bomb from the point, and is a good penalty killer. The one caveat to Soucy’s recent success is that he’s played sheltered minutes for the past two seasons. If a team pays him like a second-pairing defenseman, they might be very disappointed with the results.

Hope Canucks are careful in not signing older players to long term..My Fav out of older D men are as follow.

1. Ian Cole 34 -6'1 - 215 -- TOI -- 19:50 - 2yrs - 2.2 million

2. Justin Holl 31--RD -6'4 -210  -               2 yrs  X1.8 million

3. Luke Schenn  33 RD 6'4 -220-               2 yrs X 1.5 million

4. Carson Soucy - 28 -LD. 6'5 215             2 yrs X 1.5 million

Prefer that Alvin sign a player like Soucy to a max four year deal than going with a Pittsburgh retread in Ian Cole.

Be careful Soucy played sheltered mins on 3rd pairing? We had guy name Gudbranson ? If you have to shelter Soucy we have guys that can play #6 spot --( Juulsen -need to sign.). ( Burroughs  still not signed) - WolaninLD , Johansson RD - Brisebois LD

I like Soucy for us but a fair warning to anyone who’s a proponent of signing him…beware the turnovers and lack of focused play. He can be infuriating at times. For the folks critical of Myers, you’ll likely have burnout if we have both him and Soucy in our rotations.

Plus side is Myers is likely gone at the deadline at the latest.

Absolutely. And we need grit like the kind Soucy provides on the back end. I’m just saying It comes with a cost though.

Fair enough, but what infuriates us fans is one of the two has a six million cap hit. Lol.

This feels a lot like the Poolman situation.  Player who has been mostly 3rd pairing with some stretches and is riding high after the team with a good defensive structure does better in a career year.  Without a doubt he is the type of player we need to compliment Hronek, however is 4M per year worth it?  I wonder if a value signing of Tryamkin or a call up of Brisebois makes that much overall difference.

Feels like we are potentially paying a lot for another player overperforming in a contract year.  Put that money and effort towards a true RD partner for Hughes on the top line.

Cole was playing over 19 mins on a very good team last year?

Soucy playing,, 3rd pairing sheltered .. Sign Soucy 4 yrs X 4 million? Gudbranson--- Big troubles..

Sign Cole way better player for 2 yrs max deal.. Can play #4 and PK. 2.2 X 2 yrs max...

This is nothing to do with ex player they had 5 yrs ago.. Fact Cole is much better at 34 then Soucy..
