Rathbone at this point is AHL fodder at best and significantly worse defensively than Edler and it's not even remotely close,

I really want to like Rathbone. Offensively, he's great. Defensively, he's really not. Maybe he's better off converting to a forward, which would not be a small task in itself.

Send him to a team with a complimentary defensive Dman pairing and you might have another Tyson Barrie. He could also become a PP specialist type Dman along the lines of a Marc-Andre Bergeron (yeah, that’s a throwback). He has a great offensive skill set and wheels, and is probably disenfranchised with his lack of progress within the org. He needs a new start and a new lease on a potential NHL career, imho

In a perfect world Edler would manage that infamously troublesome Tim Ho's; & open a thread about it here, to give us wkly updates.

He'd build a large island, timbit table, where CDC'ers could sit & argue over potential 6th rd picks. Perhaps another nearby table for mods. Forget this AI existence..to mollify the PuckGawds we should all (occasionally)go back to 1970's & 80's day to day. Channel our inner Stan Mikita, Tim Horton passion, which will translate to on-ice domination.

Perhaps a do-over for 1970 beginnings?

What about all those egg laying bugs at the Tom Hos though?

I'd be total on board with a pto. He can compete with Rathbone, Wolanin, Irwin, and Hirose for that 3rd pairing spot.

Edler was great for us. But it’s best we don’t have his presence in the room now. It’s time for our new leadership to take hold. Next year would be better. Just not right now.

I'd love to bring him in for one more year as a bottom pairing/depth guy, but I'll admit that I'm sentimental regarding Edler

If we were contending and looking for some veteran depth it would make sense.

Makes no sense at this stage. We need spots open for young players to get an opportunity. We’ll never develop a proper D core if we don’t start developing young talent from the farm.

I don't disagree, but like I said, sentimental

I'd be surprised if he wandered too far from the west coast, unlike some other Swedes he seems to have settled in over the course of his time overseas

He could go play in Sweden but I just don't see it, could see him in Vegas, San Jose, or Anaheim

Maybe the Canucks reach out to him and see what he's looking for.   He still wants to play,  it makes the most sense he'd like to go for a cup.    His bank account can't be a factor at this time given what he took in LA.    We could do worse then Edler as a depth guy.   As far as sentiment goes, give him a one day deal so he can retire as a Canuck.   Or maybe sign him during the season if we get into injury problems on the left side, and even give him a shot.    Personally think if nobody else is giving a PTO, we don't have any business doing that either.
