He would definitely give us an extra option on the powerplay.

Kostopolous-Higgins-Lapierre connection in Montreal.

As for Arnott, there's a reason why his next team, if he gets signed, will be his 5th in three years.

Maybe an extended rest did him some good.

Arnott as a third or fourth line center would be good playing less games, and less minutes than he did in St. Louis. If this guy is fresh and healthy come playoff time, he would be a great asset.

Everyone's concern seems to be that he's old and slow. Sure he's slowed down at 38, but he can still play. Scoring 17 goals at 38 years old is pretty impressive. And he did that on a low scoring Blues team.

He also had one of the lowest amount of giveaways on the Blues. So that shows you he's not a turnover machine. The guy is so big, he doesn't need speed. His game is about puck protection. Once he gets it, he rarely gives it up.

Put him with a couple fast players and he'll be fine. Our team has quite a bit of speed on it anyways, you can have a couple bigger slower players mixed in.

Put him with a couple fast players and he'll be fine? Then his speed will be even more noticeable and be even more of a problem. Now youre asking Higgins/Hansen to take up two positions while Arnott is slugging back.

Oh and if you watched any Blues games, which im assuming you haven't, most of Arnott's goals aren't exactly the prettiest. Most of them were easy tap ins or wrist shots without a goalie there.. maybe 10 of them were actual goals. 7 of them were goals i could have scored with my eyes closed lol. Playing with Berglund definitely helped too.

Awesome, lets see what he can do with 20 seconds or less of powerplay time.

Sedins - Sedins - Kesler
Garrison - Edler

Sorry bud, he ain't getting no significant ice-time on the powerplay.

Kesler's out.

The theory would be that if Kyle freakin' Wellwood could score those Sedin-fed tap-ins, then Arnott should be able to score a bucketload.

However, the same was said of Owen Nolan, but whatever.

Actual goals? Never of heard of actual goals...

Goals are goals. Different players score them in different ways. It doesn't mean they have any less value.

Arnott played on a pretty speedy Blues team, and managed to score 17 goals. Clearly playing with faster players didn't hurt him. The Canucks have just as talented players as the Blues, so his ability to score would be no different.

I've seen all of his goals from last season. Most of them involved him being strong along the boards and protecting the puck, and being in the right place at the right time.

The fact that Gillis is interested in him, means he thinks he could be a fit here. I'll trust his judgement over yours anyday.

Then give Kassian time with the Sedins and develop him further, or Burrows.. Get Jovo and put him in front of the net.

People really love to enjoy overrating players due to their stats. Arnott will not fit in with this team because he is too slow for our system. Our game relies on fast breakouts, speed through the neutral zone with quick passes from the defenseman. Arnott is too damn slow.

Tyler Bozak/Shawn Matthias/Marcel Goc > Jason Arnott.

What do they all have in common? Oh yeah, every single one of those guys can be attained in a Luongo trade. All of them play for either Toronto or Florida too.

Hmmm Arnott to the Stars? Is that confirmed? I wouldn't mind him on a PTO but don't sign him right away.

I kinda would like to see Schroeder get that chance, and there are other players I would consider over Arnott, most notably Langkow. And I would also take Bozak over Arnott myself.

I don't think there is any need for Kostopolous honestly. Weise had his moments last year, is faster, with more skill IMO, and he has a one way deal so he will stick with the team. Pinnizzotto played great in training camp last year and earned his spot on the team, only to get hurt and miss the year, I think we should give him a fair chance, and Volpatti was looking good too before his injury.

I don't see much of a need for him myself.

Yea, lets trade Luongo for a guy who's a free agent after this season. Great idea.

Sorry, I don't wanna take the Leafs overrated players.

LOL

Yeah, cause Bozak/Goc/Matthias will be the centerpiece coming back in a Luongo trade, good one.

EDIT: I think you're also forgetting that Raymond can play center. Not very well, but with some help on faceoffs form Manny, he can become an excellent 3C.

Saying "LOL" when responding to everything someone says doesn't discredit them, it just makes you look immature. ;)

Okay if Bozak isn't the centerpiece, who is? Kadri?

Sorry, but trading Luongo for a guy who's a free agent at the end of the season, and prospect who's struggled to make the NHL so far, is a pretty big gamble.

I'd love to get Matthias and Bjugstad from Florida, but I think that's a pipe dream.

Kadri/Biggs/Finn/1st Rounder 2013 would be the centerpiece.

You honestly think Burke is willing to pay that much?

I think you may be disappointed in the actual return then.

Pick 2/4 of those names, there's your centerpiece.

I swear to god half of those 17 goals from last year were scored against us. One player that stuck out last year on STL for me was definitely Arnott. I was scared he would score every time we played them, and he usually did. Definitely wouldn't mind him on our 3rd or 4th line.

Then you should have used or, buddy.

If it's just one of those as the centerpiece, then it's a horrible deal.

How did this Jason Arnott thread get turned into another Luongo trade thread?

I for one thinks we can use him. Although we have far more pressing concerns than 3C or 4C.

Wouldn't mind Arnott, could fill the 4th allowing Lappy to go to the third. Would also give us some much needed depth at center whenever Kesler returns.

I think he'll be a bit too slow for our team, he also hasn't played in a while and isn't in game shape and he's old...

I'm stoked to see Lappy this year with his extra muscle, anyone see Botchford call him a dud on tv today? What a loser.

how were they together? go against opponent top line? How was their chemistry?

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

Added grit for the fourth line couldn't hurt. Sign him to a one year deal and keep him around as forward depth. We're allowed to spend to what.. 70M? Why not make use of that space? Injuries are inevitable.

We definitely could use another hard nosed player.

That looks like a great 3a or 3b line to me.

this news is not gonna impress django ^_^

I like it, Kostopolous is kinda confusing because we already have Pinozotto,Wiese and Volpatti all competing for 1 spot.

Once Kesler gets healthy the lineup looks preety solid.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Kesler - Booth
Higgins - Arnott - Hansen
Weise - Lappiere - Kassian

Can we have more than one player who can drop the groves in our lineup?

Jason Arnott can't be any worse than Mat Sundin?????? He may be slow and old now but still could produce and could be a mentor
