I started the 2013 Draft Thread last year. Thought I'd start it earlier because the recent hype of possibly picking top 14.

Who are everyone's hopefuls for the Canucks this year? Right now we sit at 9th... From after the Olympics to March 5th (trade deadline) will tell alot.

Hopefuls for 9th:
Nick Ritchie
Jake Virtanen
Ehlers

Anyone else worried about the Canucks scouts going into this enigmatic draft? Looks to have a lot of movement from 6-20

If we take someone off the board and Reinhart, Ekblad, or Bennett I'm gonna punch a hole in a wall.

If we had 1st overall & didn't take Ekblad I would be unhappy.

Durrrrr too many RHD in the system. Bieksa, Tanev, Diaz, Weber, Corrado, and Subban.

Think we'll pick 6th. Ekblad, Bennett, Reinhardt, Draisaitl and Dal Colle will be gone, IMO. I might pass on Dal Colle if he was still there, but if any of the others are available, I'd take them in a heart beat (barring them picking up a career threatening injury between now and then).

Perlini, Fleury and Virtanen are my choices for a pick at that point.

My favorites for this year's draft are:

1./2.) Jake Virtanen OR Nikolaj Ehlers

3.) William Nylander

4.) Brendan Perlini

5.) Alex Tuch

If you want my reasoning, I have a ton of explanations on the thread called "at the draft.."

I'm just too tired to rewrite it all out lol

I love Ehlers though.

He's my unanimous favorite alongside Virtanen.

We need that offensive powerhouse player. Shinkaruk could be that guy, but I really think we need 1 more. Virtanen or Ehlers please. Even Ho-Sang. We need that 80p+ player for the future.

Is Ehlers redundant with Shink??

Virtanen has the speed but also the size. So he adds a different element to our prospect pool

Regarding the draft I take McKenzies report as pretty indicative of what can be a expected. He has already stated this is not a great draft, pretty thin..the top players are good but after the #10 spot there's a huge drop off. #10 to 40 are much alike. So it would seem unless the scouts have some hidden gem they value it's not going to be a difference maker when Vcr picks. So they better get a character guy if nothing else. I'm not sure of UFA coming out of the NCAA this year but there may be a better chance to pick a player from those ranks...which we've done OK with.

If Perlini is around he fits the latest Gillis mantra big skates well and I believe has a good shot. Chances are he'll be gone :picard:

With Hamhuis and Bieksa being UFA in 2 more years, Edler possibly traded, surely we build our stable of Dmen. If we win the Lottery or Ekblad drops, Im hoping we take him. Fluery would also be nice but hard to not take a look at the crop of power forwards....especially Virtanen being a local boy

Hoping with B.C. netminder Thatcher Demko is available with our 2nd pick. Having a terrific freshman year...next Cory Schnieder?

If we picked 1st overall we would probably choose Reinhart. We would be safe down the middle in the future if we did.

1st C Reinhart, 2nd C Horvat and 3rd C Gaunce. Pretty solid future at C.

That's Stanley Cup contending depth down the middle. Would just need to find the wingers

_____ - Reinhart - Kassian

Shinkaruk - Horvat - _____

_____ - Gaunce - Jensen

Archibald - Lain - Grenier

Looks solid right now, but I doubt we'll finish high enough to get Reinhart.

No.

Ehlers is willing to hit and learn a complete game. He builds his game around the most efficient way to score.

He is extremely fast and even Bure-like, willing to score and pass all the same to make the team better.

Shinkaruk is nothing like that, and unless he changes his game could be a bust in the next ten years.

He isn't going to be available in the 2nd. I can see him being taken anywhere from around 15 to the late first. Too talented, too much of a pedigree to fall to the 2nd

Look for a team like Minny or SJ to take him
