Bure_Pavel
Wasn't my first choice but he is the youngest and has the most room to grow and wish him all the best and trust linden and Benning. Excited for the McCann pick not sure how that happened but we'll take it!
Honeydew
Ahhh, boo hoo. Are your feelings being hurt by our negativity? Simple fact is that we left exceptional skill on the table when we drafted virtanen. And just so you know, stats DO matter. He is a high risk low reward player, whereas nylander/ehlers are high risk high reward. What are you 12? Can you score 45 goals in the WHL as a 17 year old?
Winter Soldier
I was actually frustrated by both of our picks. Both guys sound like jerks. Not saying they won't get whipped into shape by the league, but from what I've gotten used to in recent years with quality guys like Horvat and Jensen, I feel like both of these guys will be mini Keslers- less upside but just as much of a cancer in the locker room. I question your ability to accurately extrapolate personality traits. I look forward to many more pages filled with CDC eating it's own tail, complaining that we finally picked a kid from our own backyard who can play with an edge when we should have been drafting undersized Europeans because they'll totes be superstars, guys. The only winning move is to not play. Edited June 28, 2014 by Winter Soldier
William_Clarkson
I wanted Ritchie, Virtanen, or Fleury (Nylander & Ehlers aren't meant for this division, they'll do well in Toronto/Winnipeg). Ritchie was my top choice (of course another Pacific Div. team picks him), but I'm still really happy with this pick, especially when I saw his excitement. Canuck Surfer
207 lbs with world class, speed, athleticism and power? Who likes to drive the net, score and a big shot?? Sounds like a Western Canadian Nichushkin???
Mr.53
Was hoping for Ehlers or Ritchie. Oh well, hope he pans out! At least you have a positive attitude. I can respect that

Watch his highlight reel real closely and you see all the little things he does with his shots. He gets them off with the weirdest slips and fakes. Perry is more of a puck possession / skills guy, can dangle with the best of em'? Virtanen relies more on athleticism and a big shot. Although both certainly have a power game... ice orca
I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).Wonder what kind of ice iq Lucic had when he was 17. ice orca
This kid is one of the youngest in the draft, at 6ft 210. He could be 6/1- 6/2 at 220-225 at 23, like this pick. We drafted 2 big kids with speed. Most of the Pacific division with the exception of maybe the Sharks went with size.
baumerman77
Best goal scorer in the draft and the best skater (yes better than Ehlers).

canucksVSflames89
You see that...that little tiny thing floating away from you? That is your logic, hurry try and catch it..oh too late it's gone! And what's that where your comment came from ... Oh it's a tiny little brain. What's your basis of your thought. Virtanen is first round pick, but he is not a #6 overall pick, plain and simple. Not one commentator worth is mettle had him rated that high (not talking about BS mock drafts). The simple truth is that we left far more talented players on the board, and for that reason the Canucks messed it up.

He's got top 6 potential whereas a guy like Nylander or Ehlers have first line potential. I don't see anyone in our system being a definite top line guy to take the reins from the Sedins. Still Virtanen is our guy now and I hope he reaches his ceiling with us.

Popular Post JiffyPB
Some of you on this forum are just a bunch of immature mouth-breathing twats. I can't believe you would lash out at a prospect and label him a bust because management didn't draft someone YOU wanted. How many years did people whine about how we didn't draft Lucic in 2006 and now we had the opportunity to make a pick like that you whine about how we didn't pick some flashy 1 dimensional scorer from the Q or overseas. I would bet my life savings that if we passed on Virtanen and he ended up being successful on a team like Toronto you would whine for the next decade about how we passed on a hometown kid for "another soft Euro." Last year a whole bunch of you were like OMGZZZ I WOULD DIE FOR A PLAYER LIKE NICHUSHKIN and now we DRAFT someone who is like him (and a hometown kid to boot) all of the sudden people are like OMGZZ PASS HE HAS NO VISION AND IS A ONE-TRICK PONY WHO CAN ONLY SCORE ON THE RUSH AND IS ONLY BEING DRAFTED BECAUSE HE IS A LOWER MAINLAND KID AND BENNING YOU EFFED UP CUZ U DIDN'T PICK WHO I WANT SO I HOPE YOU GET FIRED!!!!!!! The hypocrisy and immaturity in this is just absolutely stunning. No wonder people nickname this site Crybaby Dot Com. There is much more to a hockey player than just raw skill and size. When it came down to the speed, finishing ability, size, grit and character it was pretty clear Virtanen was the best all-around combination of all of these attributes which is why the Canucks made this pick. The hometown factor was a bonus but it was pretty clear that even if Virtanen was not from BC he would have been the pick based on what Benning was looking for. People should be happy today. We now have 2 solid 1st line capable wingers in Virtanen and Shinkaruk who both have a bright future ahead of them.
