c00kies
Vermette went for a lot less than I thought; a 3rd rounder from 2011 and a late first.
DeNiro
If a 32 year old pending UFA with 35 points gets a 1st and a prospect this year, the Canucks definitely need to take advantage.

CRAZY_4_NAZZY
If Daniel Winnik can get a roster grinder, 2nd and fourth rounder....Chris Higgins should be easily be able to fetch the same value. GET'er done JB
Ronalds.Kenins41
Not a fan of what Chicago is doing - at all - but hating Chicago - I'm loving what they are doing... Just watch, they will get a first back somehow. Even if it gets them one round farther it's bound to hurt them in the long run. In the last couple weeks they've lost Dahlback, Erixon (likely), and Clendening. Not to mention a pick in this years deep draft. Needless to say, their D prospect cupboard just got destroyed. They just added Forsling and also they have enough great D to not worry about needing prospects for years. I mean there is a reason Clendenning had no spot on their team even though he was ready. Brick Tamland
How's their cap gonna look next year? AV is a UFA i believe
billabong
How's their cap gonna look next year? Not good and that's why they have to take one last kick the can because Kane and toews both have 10.5m cap hits next season and beyond so players like Bickell, oduya, rozsival, versteeg, vermette, richards and maybe others will all be gone and replaced by youth and they still have to re sign saad
Bobby_Lu1ngo
You would have to think Matthias would get a similar return with what he brings. Not that i want to trade him but if we got a decent prospect and 1st this year back im fine with trading matthias. Higgins aswell. We have shown we can win with somw of our depth guys. Forsling has potential, but lets be realistic, he's a long shot to make the NHL. Clendening is in the NHL and playing quite solidly. Oduya is 32, Rozsival is 35, and Timmonen is 39. They just dumped 3 NHL ready D-men under the age of 25 in the last two weeks. Not to mention their first 2 picks in a very deep draft. It's gonna come back to bite them, just wait and see. Winter Soldier
To be fair, they got Gustav Forsling in exchange for Clendening. You shouldn't be expecting him to light the world on fire just because of one strong WJC performance. The same way you'd have to pace your expectations if he was still in our system. Tortorella's Rant
I wouldn't have given up a first for Vermette. Plus an average prospect. That's a lot for 33 years old come summer and 40-50 points probably at best.

They will get two or three rounds further than us (you how many million that's worth!) and they won't lose any more sleep about losing Clendening than we would about losing Hansen or Higgens................or less. At most they have at least two D prospects they can slot at the 5 6 spots when Timmonen and Rozival pass their best before date. If anything they did the right thing by trading their prospects cause they would have lost them at the end of the season. Us on the other hand traded away Forsling for Clendenning and might not even be able to sign him considering we have quite a logjam at D. Forsling will make the NHL though but it will be a while, and we had that luxury.

Well lets see how they feel about that when they have no young players to come in and fill in the gaps when they have no cap space left. It's not just about Clendening. It's about Erixon, Dahlbeck, and a 1st. No matter how deep you think you are, that will hurt in the future. Comparing a 22 year old D-men just cracking the league to 2 NHL vets is a horrible comparison. They'll think differently if Clendening becomes a solid top 4 in the next few years.
