I think the timing of the trade is what is throwing people. But getting a legit top 4d through trade is difficult and when the opportunity was there they pulled the trigger. Whether it’s a first or second Schenn brings a lot to the table for his cap hit which makes him a realistic target for any playoff team compared to say a klingberg who’s cap hit is not doable unless you are trading back a roster player

In Schenns cases that is Balogne. His salary is low enough even cap strapped teams could pull trigger and get done. I would bet we more likely hear his wife had a planned c section in the next few days so baby can be born before Luke has to leave town.

If part of the deal is resigning him what’s the difference between Meier and Horvat. Both trades are “win now” type moves. Good centers can always play wing and teams wanting playoff runs need a horvat type winning draws.
