Kassian making a case for himself

Kassian has a S% of 21.3%.....& Sestito 20.0%...respectfully. That's somewhat impressive.

Kassian now has 10 goals on 47 shots,... while Burrows has NO goals on the 53 shots that he's taken this season. So, who's the real sniper here, again?

Of course, everybody is paling by comparison to Kellan Lain,... who just scored his 1st NHL goal tonight...& has a S% of 100.0%.

The way Kassian has been playing lately, he should get a shot with the Sedins. He's done enough to earn it by now IMO. If they can put a guy like Dalpe with them, why not Kassian? He was awesome in that brief stint he played with them when Vigneault was here. I know the guy could produce if he could just get the opportunity. I hope it happens soon.

He's definitely winning me over.

My gripe would be with Canucks management miss-managing Coho. Based on the potential he showed in the juniors they should have been able to deal him, possibly sooner, for someone else.

Right now, for what Kassian provides for the deal we got an equal deal. Overall, you don't want Hodgson to be another Peter Schaefer, which he seemed to be, believing his own hype.

How exactly was he mismanaged? I think that's a myth.

Interestingly, if we look at all players that have played 20+ games this season, Kassian sits in 5th (21.3%) for shooting percentage in the league at the moment, right behind Brenden Morrow in 4th (21.9%).

Ah, the infamous "sounds like he's making excuses" quote. A little perspective....

Prospect camp: Cody says back is fine, no problem.

Main camp: back feels good

Pre-season: backs not a problem, I'm good

The day Cody gets cut: Oh my back!

AV is asked what he thinks about Cody saying his back is still a problem. There's really only two answers:

1 - The kid lied to us for the past six weeks

2 - Sounds like he's making an excuse for a poor pre-season

Which answer is better?

AV went with making an excuse but obviously the correct answer was Cody lied about his back. There were million$ of reason$ on the line to lie. But that lie set him back a year (not to mention putting his health and career at risk) as he then went on a medical wander. His own doctor, his junior teams medical staff, and a highly regarded back specialist in the US. All came up with bulging disc. After a season long wander he returns to Vancouver still having back problems and the medical staff discover a muscle tear that's aggrivating the disc. Problem solved. But that wasted year and AV's comment is entirely on Hodgson for his lie in the first place. Had he been honest maybe the medical staff looks further at that time and the secondary problem gets solved right away. Hodgson has mismanaged himself as far as I'm concerned.

Hodgson may say the right things to the press, but the fact he fired two agents and was onto his third before ever playing an NHL game just screams self entitled prima donna. Frankly, I liked the trade for Kassian from the day it happened. Hodgson is overrated here. He'll be a pretty good player but he's no Trevor Linden and never will be.

Just to be clear, I prefer Kassian and supported the trade, even though the timing wasn't perfect. I think Hodgson's attitude was a huge issue; I just think AV handled the situation poorly as well.

Its great on Torts for not automatically giving him a top-6 spot. If he had done so, he would have not learned how to play the defensive side of the game and Kesler and the Sedins would constantly have to try and bail him out. But he has worked his way through the ranks and has played like a Top-6 forward lately. If he continues this, he will be a force in the NHL

I was frustrated, but I do think JT has done a good job with Kass......he's looking very good out there on the 2nd linbe.

It's a difference between AV and Torts with him. I don't mind Torts' use of Kassian because Kass is allowed to make a mistake in the process. AV had Kass on such a tight leash he would just dump the puck and take a shift. Too afraid to make a mistake.

Kassian's development would have been further along if he was in the AHL instead of AV's doghouse during that time. Torts is no less punishing, of course but far more rewarding and I think hands on with his coaching. Kass has lost that confused look of what is expected from him and now is working on playing the game in the way that best helps his team win games. Good to see.

As of right now, Kassian is our best winger.

This is bad news.

Daniel's doing nothing.

Higgins. Nothing.

Burrows. Nothing.

Booth. Worse than nothing.

Hansen. Looks lost.

Sestito. Yeah he might be our 2nd-best winger.

Weise. Also nothing.

Good for Kassian, but good God.

Forget about being a buyer this season, folks.

Kass showing the maturity by not getting sucked into penalty trouble..and put his bad ass attitude INTO his play! great coaching with this kid.

Bang on.

I kept watching as that goon-man Gazdic kept trying to bait him into dropping the gloves. Looked like he was getting to Kass on the bench with all the chirping and a couple of times in scrums on the ice, but Kass just focussed on the task at hand.

I'm really impressed with the growth Kass has shown lately by not getting suckered into letting the other teams' goons take him off the ice and knowing when not scrap.

He showing signs that his head just might be catching up to his physical abilities.

There it is miss managed. No one really knows what was happening, but if the team thinks he's healthy and his only nursing sore pride, you have a problem. At that point he's all potential, never cracked an NHL line up and has a great junior rcord, trade him. This becomes a question of management and MG's ability to move players.

As for Kassian he's proving to show more skill and upside than he appeared to after the trade

its a very difficult line to tow. especially when your expected to play 15 plus minutes a game. its easy for a fourth line to come out and tow that line for lets say 5 mins a game but kassian is expected to police the opposing goons while not taking bad penalties and contributing offensively for 15 mins a game.

not an easy task but hes handling it well now.
